I have a key blank and would like to get the blank cut for my car, as I only have 1 key right now. Does anyone know of any place in the US that will work with me on shipping so I can get this key cut.
Thanks,
Wade

Any locksmith that does laser key cutting can cut it. Unfortunately that is only the first step. The key would just be good for turning in the lock cylinders. You will have to also get the transponder programmed. I know someone tried to get a dealer to do that, but I don't think the dealers are willings to or have the equipment to do it. I haven't heard of anyone successfully getting their key from somewhere other than the dealer.
I found these guys ( http://www.americanautolock.com/ ) who are by you. They claim to be able to program the transponder, but with the 10 key limit I don't know how it would work. If they can't help, you could always order a wallet key from the dealer and 'transplant' the transponder into the new key you have.

OT, but how are you going to keep the battery charged in the diamond key?
I am also interested in doing this swap.
Where did you buy your blank diamond shaped key from?

the "diamond" key is the new style BMW key that debuted 9/99 and replaced the older black rubber headed key:
(new style "diamond" key: uses a recharable battery and is charged when inserted into the ignition)

(old style key: uses RE-placable batteries that can be purchased from the dealer or Radio Shack etc)

I declare Qsilver7 they keymaster...i just read 2 of your posts on keys and they were both informative and very helpful, especially the one in another thread where you talk about valet keys etc...good informative stuff...I only have one key and need to look into getting another one made..especially since i've been known to loose things. And now i know i have a diamond key..hehe..i thought it meant something extra technical...like there's diamond in the key or some shit...lol...now i know its just the shape...
