I have a 1990 525i with a blown motor. I was wondering if I could put a 535i motor (M30) into this car? Thanks in advance.

Sure, why not?

You need the m30 and tranny from a 535i 5-speed, 535i drive shaft, and rear end.

I have heard that the m20 wiring harness can be modified to work on the m30. Do some research.

Yes.. you can. But's not plug and play.. You'll need a lot more than just the motor like Antrieb stated.

Why not go with an s50/s52?

Being M20 originally, I'm not sure that would be any easier than an M30.

True but if your going to invest that time/money why not do it right the first time

^true but the M30s can be had dirt cheap compared to S50/52

You might find that it's incredibly cost effective to buy the M30 pre-installed in an E34. :)

You should find this thread helpful, although he started with an M50

M30 > S50

For the price of an S50 you can get a M30 + mods.

I'd suggest buying a 535i and selling your car off for parts, you'll come out ahead over doing any engine swap :)
