Hi everybody!
I just bought my first BMW (1995 525i with automatic transmission). The cars starts just fine, but when i run the car (ED) and i am about to reach the second speed i get the "trans program owner manual” message and de ED letters disappear form dashboard. The car then seems to run on one speed and is really weak.
If I turn off the car and restart the message is gone until I get to the second speed again. The Transmission does not make any strange noise.
Any of you guys have any suggestion or ideas??
I really need your advice.
I noticed that the battery is not fully charged (the indicator is black). Do you guys think there might be a relationship with this?
Please give me some advice.

try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes and see if the computer resets itself. Mine did, but it said trans fail, and after it reset I have had no problems

I've heard of transprogram occurring when the battery is weak and/or the alternator is not working correctly. Since it doesn't go into transprogram immediately after the engine is started, I would start with your battery charging problem first.

I'm in the same boat but only get it in sport mode, so until I get around to changing my alternator, ED it will be.
Here's some stuff to read through:

Here's the charging system checkout from the BavAuto magazine:

Please post up what you find out.

I had an intermitent problem that turned out to be the A/M switch being sticky.

Were you able to spray it out or did you replace it?

Well i took the battery to a battery shop and they said the voltage is fine (the black light still on the battery though).
so i drove my car for about a mile then came back and the next day the tranmission is stuck on park position..

There's a procedure in the Bentley to adjust the shifter, might be out of adjustment or broken bits down around the shifter.

check the fluid...my tranny in my 7 does that, and its always bc my fluid is low. I have a seal leaking in my tranny, so it constanly leaks fluid out.
