View Full Version : Mellow E39 Attitude Towards M Aero

I've noticed there are a lot of E39 people upgrading their fronts and backs with M style upgrades, with very few poser accusations as long as the badge isn't messed with. Other forums seem more sensitive to this issue.
Any thoughts as to the difference?

in 03 the e39 sport (or at least the 540i) came with M-style body from the factory. I dont see why there should be a problem.
upgrade it for a better look, that's all
just like dress-up like monsters on the outside during halloween night
but inside you don't really wanna become a monster
(um...that's a pretty bad analogy....i guess)

I honestly just think the M trim looks better - I've never had the intention of trying to pass off my car as an M, but in my opinion the older style 97-00 front bumper is a bit "chinless" and makes the car look less aggressive. It just seems like a shame that you have such a well proportioned look in the headlights, hood, and grill lines - only to be let down by an awkward lower portion. The 01-and up front bumper is a bit improved looking but I always think of Tiff saying in a review that the M5 front looks like it could swallow a wayward child.

It's just generally accepted within the community here that it's okay. You're right, though, "we" definately have a much more lax attitude toward those modifications than some others groups do even on this very board.

What's BAD is when people put an M5 badge on a 540iA.... with the factory bodykit. Yes, I've seen this. It had M5-style wheels and an ///M5 badge on the back... but nothing else. Pathetic.

Actually you should go ahead and go for the full M5 package with badges in all. It doesn't matter what others say. You will be ballin' with confidence. It feel like like a brand new stick of right guard. :devillook

m-tech pieces are a visual styling upgrade. applying an M5 badge is trying to fool people into believing you have something that you don't.

also in europe and canada... the other models other than the 2003 msport 540 got the mtech treatment... so in a sense if your car was imported... as most of our cars were made in munich... you had the option to get the mtech package... also bmw offers the upgrade at your local dealership its not a special order bmw part... it something you can add as an option not something model specific.. and bmw wont allow cause you car never came with it...

Anyone who wants to make my monthly car and insurance payments, pay for my gas, and cover the maintenance can tell me whatever they want about what I can/can't do with my car.

I love how you say that like it's a bigfoot sighting - most of us have seen that more than once.

The only ones I've seen piss and moan about other owners with mtech kits are the owners that can't afford to put a replica chin spoiler on their rides. It's the whole aesop's fox tail syndrome.

M-Tech was an option from the factory for the 540i. Also "M-Tech" is available aftermarket and is different than the M-5 front aero (i.e., M-Tech has T-bar). So its not poser. Putting an M5 badge on anything that is not an M5 is a poser.
This subject has been beat to death.

Thanks to all who gave an opinion on what I asked, appreciate it.
I'll definitely be looking at the M-Tech front bumper come tax rebate time.
