:roundi'm guessing that there are some STRONG opinions out there... but i love the look of wheel with a highly polished lip. i also love my factory M-Sport Parallel wheels. can i have both?

has anyone polished their M-Parallels (lips only)? i'd really like to see some pictures and hear your opinions.

thanks in advance!

That's what i'm talking about! Are those fiske profil 5S wheels in 'speedsilver' finish? they are awesome!

Agreed that the M parallel wheels look great and those fiskes are quite impressive.

I've not polished the M parallels but have attempted to have some scuff marks fixed up. The response from my trusted pro was that he would not touch them unless the entire wheel was to be reconditioned. Reason: the protective plastic coating covering at least the visible surface. He was talking big bucks to do the work and was not encouraging about total satisfaction with the outcome.

I'd appreciate any info on approaches to bring my wheels back to like-new condition AND any info on polishing as stated in the beginning of this thread.

Fikse FTW. If you value quality, Fikse is not short on that.

Damascus,

My 540iA sport came with OEM M parallels 17" staggered. They had some pretty good curb rash on them. I did all the reading I could find and everything said they had a hard ass primer from hell that was nearly impossible to get off. Also, getting OEM paint was nearly as hard, but I finally found some Einszett Silber paint which is a zinc paint. I sanded them and painted. They will never be as good as new in my opinion because of my own lack of skill but they are now good "three footers". I wanted a brite wheel just as you do. I decided the only way I might get my OEM M-pars looking right was to blast them with peanut shell media and then powder coat back to a nice metallic silver. I had just bought 17" Michelin PS2's. I saw the 18" replica M-pars from Lakeshore and that was it! Polished lip, 18", staggered, and they came with even fatter Kumhos for reasonable. The PS2's will not last long anyway so the OEM 17" M-pars will get blizzacks for the winter and the Lakeshore 18" will be my fair weather combination.

Forget trying to polish OEM M-pars to brite lip unless you are very skilled and even more-patient to a fault. I'm still not sure it can be done, but I'm not sure t can't- I just know it would be a labor of love if it can be done at all.

Bill

Damascuscus540i6M:
Any issues with transition from 18" fair weather to 17" blizzaks? I'm trying to figure out same issue for 19" fair weather on 08 550i Sport to 18" blizzaks and appropriate winter wheels (non BMW) for the upcoming slush season.

Call them direct. They can sell them from the factory, or recommend a dealer which may turn out to be cheaper. They run close to OEM in $$$$, but are much, much nicer. The actual rims are made to orderand can take upto 6 weeks.
