is 5w30 the right weight with amsoil? I get confused with the whole 0w40 thing with American oils...

Would Amsoil's viscosity ratings be different than any other oil?

I'm switching from Mobil1 0w-30 to Total 5w-40.
Are there any tips for changing my oil?/ What kind of engine oil should I use? (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=870704)
