Ticket for no Reason,
Ok friends! If you drive a nice car you will get pulled over wither you doing right or wrong I have proof,
This morning on my way to work I come to a red light State Trooper side by side, light turns green and we go I see cars in front of me so I merge over in front of the cop then pass the guys on my right only to come to another stop light, Posted Speed limit 40 I was doing 43 when I passed the other guys, turn signal and everything. Come to the next light, the Light was red so I came to a complete stop, ONLY because I knew the cop was behind me. Another day I would have rolled through it. Turning right again with turn signal into the merging lane, step on the Gas and im almost immediately at 53 the posted speed limit is 50. Supercharger BTW. At the end of the merge lane I turn my signal on and merge into the traffic lane, No other cars around me at all.
Now for the fun part, im just staring into my rear view mirror watching for the cop, first car, 2nd car and then cop Just turn right onto the road I was on, then 10 seconds go by Cop turns on lights passes the 3 cars that are now behind me to pull me over. Im smiling because I have NO idea whats going on in his head,
He tells me I have an illegal exhaust that’s too loud!
That I was going in my mid 60’s in a 50
That I was going in my mid 50’s in a 40
That I was aggressively driving
That I did not stop at the light to turn right
That I crossed over the solid white line in the merge lane
That he had to go 80 MPH just to catch up to me :confused
Ummmmm
NO..
I then started to argue telling him that I KNEW he was there and of course I was not about to BRAKE 1 TRAFFIC law with a cop behind me. That I STOPED not rolled, I did not speed and you cant say I did you have no proof, I did nothing wrong,, blah blah blah..
He then comes back to give me a ticket for rolling through the Red light!! 41 bucks and 4 points. Says that I should think about all the Traffic violations that I just did and decide if its worth it to go to court to fight it with a clear head! Since he was cutting me a brake and just giving me 1 ticket. :rolleyes
Keep in mind I was polite the whole time but told him he was wrong with what he saw. I told him I have always wondered if you would just pull someone over because you want to and I guess im right. He HAD NOTHING on me and he just wanted to be a jerk. :mad
I think I have no choice but to go to court what do you guys thing?
BTW see my sig for my Exhaust, I think its fine!

When you say you were immediately at 53 it makes it sound like you got there too fast. I don't think the cop liked that. I also think that the cop caught on to you trying to push the limits knowing you weren't breaking the law just to see play with him.You CAN argue the 80 mph thing he had to do to catch up. You were like a block away. He HAS to go a lot faster then 50 to catch up to you going 50. Physics will work to prove this.
I think his problem was you accelerating to quickly to your final speed which he saw aggressively driving. I actually agree with him on that one. Why would you speed up SO quickly if you knew he was there. The ticket for the red light you can fight bu i don't think you'll get much except have it brought down a little bit. Since he didn't give you tickets for the other ones I doubt he'll bring it up in court because that means he didn't do his job and let you get away with doing something illegal.

That sucks, it is targeting and they do it all the time. Sometimes my father actaully gets pulled over in his Ferrari's casue the cops want to pull over Ferrari's, they even tell him this, he laughs it off. Your situation is just not right, you shouldnt have hit it like that but what the hell its not illegal to get up to speed quick unless they state agressive driving but what the hell, I say let it go, why fight it.
Oh and it can get worse if you fight it and the cop shows up, he will testify that he let you off with warnings for the other infractions and the Judge will then sight you for them.

My suggestion go to court. I was recently in Colorado and was told that cops are ruthless there. I did get pulled over for going 18 over and luckily I was let go and told to enjoy my vacation. I'm in the legal profession so maybe that helped. But, go to court and I don't think that he will bring any other stuff up. First of all, the cops don't just have a free will to talk, the prosecutor asks them questions. Tell the judge you were pulled over for no reason and were told you were speeding. Then say that you asked for proof and the cop didn't have any so he gave you a ticket for something that doesn't require physical proof. See what happens and since you obeyed the law then there should be no surprises. I must say that you're already at a loss for having to go to court. But no matter what happens, go to court so that it doesn't go on your record. I'm not familiar with CO law so don't hold me to it. Good luck.

you guys are right though... there is no law saying you can't get up to speed quickly. as long as you aren't doing burnouts or launching it, it doesn't matter how fast you get up to speed. i do the same when i'm driving. it seems like getting up to speed quicker saves gas.
sorry to hear about the cop being a dick. i agree with you there though. my e36 is off the road for the year, but when its on the road, you can count on being profiled.

Some cars just pick up speed faster than others. If the cop brings this up, then I would ask him the standard Qs about launching and tell the judge that it was quiet and smooth. Oh and I would tell the judge that the cop suggested not coming to court!!!!! Now why would the cop say that???!!!

Pigs piss me off, it seems that they should have something better to do than pick on people like us.
However, about two weeks ago, in Pittsburgh, i was going about 90 in a 35, evening time on a back road, i blew through a stop sigh at about the limit and johnny Law caught the entire thing. Of coarse he nabbed me. I just want to say this is the first time that an officer was ever decent to me, He asked me if i knew why i was getting stopped i smiled and said, yes sir, i was ripping it. he did not smile in return, however he cam back and said that he never truly got my speed and was going to give me a warning for going through the stop sign. I could not believe it.
If i were you i would fight that ticket 4 points, at least try to get rid of those. that cop truly sounds like a Pig, so be sure to leave out the rapid acceleration part, and through yourself at the mercy of the court.

Tickets suck, especially when they include points. So yeah definetly go to court.
Here's something I don't understand, we all know that a nice cars get attention from the police, so why would you make yourself stand out.
I mean you did technically speed twice, not the huge numbers he said, but it was above the limit.
Accelerated quickly from the lights, again why? All it did was make you stand out, sure you didn't do anything wrong but it kept his attention on you instead of somewhere else.
When they are around you want to blend in, not make yourself stand out.
It doesn't matter that you aren't doing anything technically wrong, it's kinda like a game of keep-away.....it pisses people off.
And they (the police) can cause you problems, even if they are eventually proved wrong.

My take is that the PO felt disrespected by your quick acceleration in his presence and ticketed you to show you who the bigger fish was. JMO

what do you guys think?
Wanna know what I think? NEVER, I repeat, NEVER change lanes in front of a motorcycle cop. Never pass a cop and merge in front of them. Do not ever even give them reason to remotely want to pull you over.
You should have just waited for the cop to pull out in front of you before you go and pass the car in front. Don't pull out in front of a cop to make a pass. That right there was what got you pulled over. And once pulled over the cop was going to write you up for whatever he feels like.
I know it doesn't sound right, but don't draw attention to yourself with a cop, and doing that pass in front of him is exactly what you should not have done.

+1 When I was young and drove a flashy car, I learned real fast to drive like a grandma when a cop is tailing me. 5mph under the limit, and 0-50 in over 30 seconds. After a few blocks, they get bored and move on. It sucks, but that's life.

You surely can get a ticket for accelerating too quickly. There are a couple names for it but the most common is "unnecessary display of power" and tell me how on earth you think accelerating fast would save gas? your car should have the MPG meter.....that by itself should give you a clue it by surely does not save gas. Harder the engine has to work(higher rpms) more gas you use.
If I were you........I wouldnt have ever got into the lane the cop was in....for 1. cops drive faster than the flow of traffic therefore if you just cruised for a bit then waited for him to get a call or turn off then you coulda gone bout your business.
Theres almost no chance of getting out of this.......STATE cop mind you vs. bimmer dude? you dont have any evidence to prove your innocent to display to the court besides your word. your word vs. state cops word = FAIL. fact of life.
BigDog
The judge cannot add the other infractions on the spot after the cop tell him of this. Thats the point of the ticket and you can only be prosecuted for the reason your there......
After reading some of your ticket stories......maybe you guys should just....I dunno go the speed limit? Our cars have cruise control.....
Dont donate anymore of your valuable life time with this stupidity.........pay it and do something worth living for. Not in a court room all day

He likely got you for aggressive driving. In PA, driving with one hand (and the other hand hanging out the window) is considered wreckless driving. A good catch-all.
Or obviously, he didn't like the color of your back bumper.
Be a man; pay up.

Maybe the cop looked at all the cars on the road at that time and felt that this guy was the easiest to nail. (If the cop had a list of infractions, cop must have had some reason to pull him over.)

"cops want to pull over Ferraris." (no apostrophe needed) I fully agree with you. They also want to pull over Vettes, Lamborghinis, Porsches, NSXs, 350Zs, supercharged Hummers, Cadillacs, Cobras, Vipers. Once, I even saw them pull over a Metro and a Checker. What the heck is with these cops, man? Don't they have anything better to do than pull over guys who are merely speeding. After all, we have not kiilled or maimed anyone (yet)?
You have really motivated me to write to my congressman. I am sure he will respond (as soon as he gets out of jail).

When i see a fed, i make sure I stay in one lane until he is out of sight. They will think of every excuse to say it was unsafe lane change blah blah. I stay in one lane or I wait until they pass me. When you're in a BMW, high speeds seem slow but they handle so great so it doesn't seem violent.
Ummm 53 in a 50 is speeding. They dont have prove that you were doing 53 just that you were speeding. Altough I think you got a bum rap...you kinda brought it on yourself. sorry bro.....good luck in court.

Cops are used to people driving 5-10 mph under the limit when in the vicinity. Bouncing in and out of traffic and ONLY 3 over was more than enough to piss him off. You may have been right in your mind but sorry dude you f***** up.

no word of a lie:
my neighbor is the cheif at the local PD, and hes always talking about how people drive wicked slow when one of his patrolmen are behind them. he says the fact they drive that slow pisses all of them off more than if the person were speeding. but obviously that depends on where you live, so i go 35-40 in 30's when theres a local behind me, that way they arent right on my ass but im not pulling away from them. but like i said its all in the habitat.
whatever you do, dont say that your odometer is out of calibration if they get you for speeding, that can lead to numerous other infractions lol.
asking for proof, obviously there being none, is the best way to go.

I could careless if I piss him off while Im not breaking the law in anyway. In my part of the state, the cops drive much faster than the other cars just because......they're cops. So If I can piss a cop off and get away with it then YES SIR its gonna happen. I make sure to stay at a stop sign for like good 10 stopped seconds JUST so that fool cant say Im running the sign. Most cops are assholes......
What pisses me off is when a cop is using radar on the highway outside his car and to make the "speeding" vehicle stop he STEPS into the cars path. Like so lets look at this situation....
-speeding car
-cop on foot
-cop stepping into highway in front of a speeding vehicle.
sounds legitimate to me.......NOT
