How has everyone's experience been with Style 5 wheels and hub rings on your E34?

I love style 5 wheels and have found a set and am thinking about purchasing them. Has anyone had any performance or handling issues as a result of the hub rings?

The ones I am considering are 17 inchers.

Thanks, Steve

you'll have a performance issues if you don't put the hubcentric rings on...

but, no I haven't had any performance issue with the wheels... that said, they will expose problems with your suspension. You'll know right away if you need new thrust arms with the 17" wheels... I did.

Also, make sure to get a good quality hubcentric ring and get ready to go to BMA parts for your replacement Lemforders...

don't do it without the rings. They work well w/ no drawbacks and are cheap (>$20 shipped).

How much are the Style 5's you are looking at?

I am looking to buy a set also. How much do they normally run?

It kills me that you're ditching throwing stars for Style 5s.

Are you selling the Throwing Stars?

I'd be interested in knowing if you've got T-stars. I have a set of nice Style 5's that are for sale...

Hehe, yeah, but slightly different circumstances.

I didn't have the throwing star covers, and the Style 5s are the rare staggared versions.

On his car, a 540i6, throwing stars are more in character, IMO. Sportier.

I guess I didn't explain myself very well. I am looking to buy some Style 5 wheels and I plan to use the hubcentric rings. My question was this:

How well do the Stlye 5s work WITH hubcentric rims? Are there any issues with handling, vibrations, etc? I never planned to NOT use hubcentric rims, I am just concerned that the car migh not handle as well as a wheel that didn't require hubcentric rings at all.

I do have throwing stars and I love them and plan to keep them - they came with the car and I like the way they look. However, my Oxford Green has chrome trim and I really think the Style 5s will look a little better on this color/chrome combo than the throwing stars.

I think that shadowline trim would bring out the best in the throwing stars with the Oxford Green, but I don't want to change the chrome trim. I have found over the years that I appreciate keeping as much of a car's original look as possible. All that being said, the Style 5s just "fit" the E34 so extremely well!

Gotcha.

There have been stories of the rings cracking due to careless wheel removal/installation. It's something I'd rather not deal with so I got E34 fitment wheels...

I agree with you on the chrome trim, but remember that the late E34 M5 was shadowlined from the factory.

You can pick up the OE trim at Abrahams Motorsport.

I didn't realize you could get Style 5s to fit an E34? Sounds like you might have some rare ones?

If the late M5s were factory shadowline then that would be great if that is what I owned! ;)

I want to keep my car as honest and as true to original design as possible -I would change the chrome to shadowline if I hated it, but I don't hate it. But, I think my car may come more into its own with Style 5s.

BTW, I like the look of your car a lot. I think white would look good with throwing stars, M Pars or Style 5s - white is an amazingly versatile color. However, I tend to see oxford green as a little older classic BMW color and the the chrome trim and the Style 5s just seem to fit together to me.

Cheers!

I understand and certainly don't disagree with you. I do agree with the polished lips going with the chrome trim.

My wheels are very rare. I've seen a set show up on Ebay from time to time.

Thanks for the compliment!
