I just got the 07E-A01 Campaign recall notification from BMWNA in the mail today. It's a voluntary recall, which involves reprogramming the DME to "fully meet" EPA requirements.
I was just about to dyno my car for a baseline, and I may dyno it after the reprogram just for grins. I'm sure BMW would never take HP away, right?
Any thoughts?

I'd skip the update. :) I believe the issue is the ECU not testing the smog systems, among them the cats. Shouldn't effect most people.

I'd skip the update. :) You can't. The next time the car is in for service, the dealership is required by law to perform it.

Good point. Still there is no reason to rush in for it, let the dealer update it at the next service interval.

Terry- I'm assuming this would mean removing JBS before taking in for service, correct?

No need to remove it for ECU updates! I would suggest JB2 customers undo the vacuum line bypass just to ensure there is no visual cue if they look under the hood.

When you pick up the BMW after the recall is done you might feel that it is slow. This is because when the adaptations are reset and starts off in an "economy" mode where A/F ratios are a bit leaner and vanos, ignition, and maybe fuel injection timing are retarded.
Only thing I can recommend is to drive your car hard after the recall so that it quickly adapts.

Thanks for the advice. I'll probably just wait. Oklahoma doesn't have emissions testing and I'll get my first oil change in 8000 miles. They'll do it then, I'm sure.

The purpose of the recall is so that all OBD2 scanners and BMW diagnostic computers can detect potential malfunctions of various emission relevant components. Examples are like bad o2 sensors, transmission control units, cam sensors, etc.
You can't tell the dealer to skip this procedure because it's mandated by EPA and CARB.

first oil change in 8000k miles? What about the break-in oil change?

I'm at 11000 miles now, and my dash shows I'll need it at 19000. I got a break in oil change at around 4500 miles thanks to a bad fuel pump, bad turbo, limp mode oil dump. Man, that was a bad month!
