Is it a good idea to swap an 1995 E34 motor into our E36? I bet it can run the hell out of the new E46 M3's and it might even be cheaper than a turbo or S/C set up. Also keep your car reliable, anybody know where they sell used motors? Any comments?????

I would love to see it done. I understand that the M5 motor is heavier than the M3 so that might through the car off balance (what I love about M3s). At $4200 for a kit from HIOP (root type, positive displacement) plus installation, I think you will come out much cheaper than the M5 motor, much more reliable, much more HPs, and retain the balance.

M5 motor requires a lot more hardware than M3s. I understand it has oil coolers up to your neck...

That is, WHENEVER HIOP comes out with that kit ... it's not on their website yet

I'd like to see a writeup in a magazine, with dyno curves, and on an OBD II car, not OBD I. I'd settle for a lengthy writeup by a thread member.
