I purchased my 325I with factory installed Sirius Radio and we really enjoy the service overall, but we are having a problem with the signal cutting in and out for no appearent reason. For instance, driving down freeway without a cloud in the sky, nothing over head and the signal just cuts out and moments later is re-established.

I have had several conversations with Sirius and they state it is a problem either the antenna or the receiver, but BMW continues to claim there is nothing wrong with either.

Is anyone else having similar issues? If it has been resolved, what was the resolution?

Are you driving near High Voltage Power lines when you lose the signal?

It is probably NOT your radio. Sirius has had signal "deficiencies' for a long time. I have the same problem in my BMW as well as in my Corvette. Its the satellite!!

While Sirius reception is definitely better in my 335, it does drop out sometimes. I also had Sirius in my previous Mercedes and it was far worse. I doubt there is anything wrong with your receiver or antenna. It's just likely 'nature of the beast."

I have noticed the powerline problem, even when driving under the streetcar lines here in San Francisco. But this is happening on a very flat stretch of road with no obstruction, along the bay. But thanks for a feedback...

douglaz,
I live in San Francisco and mine only cuts out when I drive around Sutro Tower and down a few very steep hills in Pac Heights. Otherwise all is good.

I have an Xact add-on in my 2001 530 (E39) with the antenna mounted on the trunk. I only cuts out if I go under a bridge for > 4 seconds. I live in West Palm Beach (south) Florida and have driven all over the state with it and had no problems including downtown Miami where there are lots of tall buildings.

I think it's the quality of the Sirius receiver and/or antenna that BMW uses. The aftermarket unit on my old car, with the antenna in a worse location on the package shelf, works much better--I get no dropouts in the city at all. That's not the case with the BMW, where it's sometimes unlistenable due to the intermittent reception.

It was something ridiculous like $400-600, but I wanted it totally integrated. It did come with 1 year "free."

I really like it and it works well in NM, but it's amazing how slow it is to tune in a station...seconds go by between each one.
