View Full Version : HID foglights?

Has anyone tried putting HIDs in their foglights? I don't know how well it would work because it seems like the glass blurs the light. Sylvania makes an "auxiliary low beam HID kit". It looks like it is basically a replacement foglight using HID technology. Anyone know if these foglights would fit into my E36 M3 bumper? I'd love to be able to use my foglights as headlights and drive around with my demon eyes on.

I have 4300K HID in my foglights. Pictured below in my sig. They definately can be used as headlights to show off the demon eyes.:D

What I don't understand is why spend $400 for an HID kit to use in your fogs? How much is it going to help the vision? Barely. It's all for looks

lotta $$$ for looks if you ask me, if i was you i would get a really nice piaa fog light setup for that $, you could even get some driving lights that would act as extra high beams, give you added light for fast night driving. they even make fog/driving, but they might be too pig for your setup.

I don't want to put HID in my stock foglights. I'd like to find a replacement foglight that has clear glass, so the light doesn't get blocked. Then put in HIDs... Basically, making foglights into an ellipsoid headlight.

Damn Joe, what kind of HIDs are you running for your headlights? My 6000k philips kit doesn't look anything like that.

Well theres no way I would spend an extra $400 on an HID kit just to throw them in my foglights either. I have this kit in my foglights because this kit was given to me and it was just laying around here. I tried selling it before and no one wanted to buy it so I put it in my foglights. Also, it doesnt barely help your vision, it helps out a lot. If you noticed, I wrote that you could actually drive around all night with just the foglights on if you wanted to.

My headlights are 7500K Hella Iron Chef. I love your car man.

Thanks but the pictures make my car look better than it is in person, well as far as the paint goes. I really need a new paint job. It looks nice at night in person though.:)

i was thinking about getting the Sylvania auxiliary low beam HID kit but there will be about a 1 inch gap in the space where the fogs go. right now i have philips 6000k HIDs in my fogs. i love them, they light up the sides of the road so much better then then stock lights do. but i bet the sylvania kit would be better.

Has anyone tried Lava Lightings foglight bulbs? They're called Licht Technik bulbs. They look good in the pics. Don't know if they're any better than every other halogen bulb.

i agree that fogs help after i found out how to aim them higher than their stock settings. :) I'm a happy camper.

You can aim your fogs by the little philips adjustment screw.

As far as HID in fogs, you didn't run into any issues? What bulb is in there? I thought they were H7s? And it fits???

Hmmmm.

This coming from a vendor, I'd avoid putting HID into fogs, it just seems like overkill.

Thanks. I had no problems with HID in the fogs. The bulbs are standard D2R bulbs.

Can you be more specific on aiming the foglights? Where exactly is the screw to adjust them? Sticky, you can use your foglights as headlights...are you using the stock foglight housing? I thought the glass blurred alot of the light.

look at Quest's sig.
look at his air intake
there is a screw that is available through the plastic if you have a long neck screw driver.

Are you talking about the little brake duct holes next to the foglights??? Sorry, I'm just not really sure what you mean.

I tried them, not really worth the money. $55 and they don't really match the HIDs that well. They aren't yellowish like the stock ones, just whiter, not hid bluish like the headlights. Not to bash Lavalighting, the HIDs are the bomb and Jerry offered to refund the fogs if I was that unhappy, but I kept them because I had already paid and they are better than stock.
