As stated above i am new to the beemers, i am a big mustang nut and have had one after another but am looking for something a lil more economical and comfortable yet hot looking and fast.....my mustang that i have now is supercharged and am putting about 320 to the wheels...im looking into getting a e36 m3....preferably a 95' coupe.....but am not to sure as to how well these cars react with mods ...i would like to have at least the same power as i have now ...cuz it will suck to down grade....am i looking at forced induction??..if not let me know options on bolts and stuff to do thanks

any 300hp motorcycle is gonna be pretty rediculous.

Beemer is a motorcycle. Bimmer is a car.

If you want 300+ at the wheels, you will need:

1) modded S54 (E46 M3 engine) or S50B32 (Euro M3 engine) swap

2) supercharger or turbo system (much more than 300 whp is possible)

The swaps are expensive, but if you want 300 NA wheel horsepower they are the only way to go. The forced induction setups are much more common and can be cheaper- look up Active Autowerks, they do pretty nice supercharger kits and turbo kits that will get you the power you are after.

You're forgetting the 318. Everyone knows those turn 350 at the wheels stock!;)

drive the car first, 300hp in a BMW is a lot different from 300hp in another car. I'm sure you dont' believe me, but it's all about gearing and power band. Also, getting to 300hp would cost you quite a few grand.

We have a forced inducion section, you should poke around in here and see what you can learn:

+1 I was going to say something similar. 230 in one car can easily feel like 300 in another. Test drive a stock M3 at... what, 215hpish? and see how it feels first. BMW's aren't all about straight line speeds either. Unlike your Mustangs, BMW's are happy in the corners and feel very settled at speed. A different driving experience entirely.

getting around 300 to the wheels would require FI. You could do it NA but it would cost a lot more than FI.

I'd recommend finding one for sale that is already FI. Resale will basically give you the turbo/supercharger for a couple grand. Plus a lot of people build up the tranny, clutch and rear end when they do that. Saves a lot of green.

Yeah look for a prebuilt, or Vorshlag just released their LS1 swap kit, that will net you 300 to the wheels easily.

Whoah I didn't know a company is selling LS1 swaps for E36? Links? Price?

4-7k depending on how much you want to source yourself, plus engine and tranny.

yea drive the car first, you may be happy with just a couple bolt ons. m3's are a completly diffrent animal than a mustang interms of feel. I have ridden in a fast mustang(saleen s281 supercharged) and a stock m3 and the feeling of accelaration is totally diffrent. I think the m3 felt faster. and its way more plesurable to drive imo... and as far as stock for stock handling and braking there is absolutly no comparison.
