when i took delivery of car it was set to flash the lights and chrip the horn when i locked or unloced the doors. i disabled both but now i can just my chirp back. according to the manual i should have the option to set a chirp but when i scroll thru my settings i no longer see a chirp option, only one for headlights or off.
would someone mind looking at their options the next time they are in their car and let me know what options you see for locking?
thanks very much. sorry about the bad pic, but it gets the point across.
also, i am using the "insert image" icon at the top of the posting box but am getting the following IMG string in my post. do you know what i am doing wrong with posting images?

Don't mean to doubt you, but do you have the dealer installed alarm option? because without it, there is no chirping and thus no option to set it.

no, i don't have a dealer installed security system. now that i think harder about it i remember only disabling the lights. the chirp must've been a "pigment of my amalgamation..."
my salesman wasn't big on the security system. any recommendations in that area mr. yakan?
thanks for your response and sorry for posting about a problem that doesn't exist. :(
i would like to have a locking chirp though.

I had the same problem. After the dealer installed my IPOD adapter, I lots my chirp option. The IPOD software altered the alarm software and delted the chirp option.
I went back to the dealer and they hooked their computer up to it and reprogrammed the alarm. As it turns out, I hate the chirp and disabled it.
The chirp sucks, but it is nice to have the option.

:stickoutt Glad to help. I thought about getting the alarm for maybe 5 minutes then said neah. I had it on my e36 for 10 years and never found it of any use really, so I decided to save the 500/600 for other stuff, most probably upgraded wheels.

You are correct! I asked the same question at the dealer and I don't have the alarm system, so no chirp. Definitely have the lights set to go when locking and unlocking.

Yeah the lights help, but one thing I didn't figure out, is how do you know if you left a door ajar or the trunk lid open and the car didn't completely lock. My e36 used to give a different chirp when that happened. Not enough for me to pay 500-600 for the alarm, but would like some kid of indication even visual, anyone know?

Don't mean to be a smart ass but can't resist, the best visual to see if you left your door open or your trunk would be your own 2 eyes!
Also, as far as the doors go, I am almost sure the car won't lock if the door is open. It should lock if the trunk is open though.

Not sure if you have kids, but if you do, you'd change your mind quickly. Checking all 4 doors (well 3) for being locked when in a rainstorm trying to get into a Wallmart without becoming a wet sponge is highly preferrable. This was not an issue when I had a 2 door.
And yes the car might not lock, but you won't be able to tell without checking the locks.
I am not complaining, but asking if someone knows of any cues the car gives to that effect.

The lights won't blink if a door isn't shut.

The lights won't blink if a door isn't shut.
I'll give that a try to verify.
Thanks

You are absolutely right, even if the trunk is not shut it will not blink, although I seemed to manage to confuse it once or twice when I left the door partially shut and locked/unlocked several times, but in any case it never blinked the lights when something was unlocked, so I guess if you don't see blinking, go doublecheck to be safe.
Thanks again.

That's why Comfort Access is a better feature than I imagined. I actually got it so I could raise and lower the top to put things in the trunk when the top was down. A feature I have yet to use. But since you actually have thumb notches on the door handle and you hold the door handle with your thumb on the notches to lock the doors, you see the locks go down. I've grown completely fond of CA as a whole. I just grab the door handle and the car unlocks. I don't have to think about putting the fob in the fob hole to start the car and all I do is push the start button. Pretty nice feature all in all.

Sorry RBrylawski, but I have to disagree. Maybe with a coupe it is easy to see all 2 locks go down, but with a sedan, you must have Superman vision to see all 4 of em :stickoutt. Not denying CA benefits, but if I had it, I'd probably still use the keyfob to lock the car, just because I don't want to wait next to my door (or worse go back to it) once all the kids have exited the car. Again kids and 4 doors change the whole perspective. My 2 door no kid days were much simpler, but no complaints now.
