I ordered my 335i coupe the week before labor day and I just got a status update that I'm in the paint shop today. I'm expecting to complete production Wednesday and have my fingers crossed to make it on the Aida on October 4th to cross the Atlantic.
Is anyone else on a similar production timeline here? I estimate that I'm about 5 weeks from delviery and I'm getting pretty pumped.

My 335i Convertible just began production today! I don't know what sort of timeline that puts me on. Where do I get specifics on my production status (i.e. "Codes")? When I call the (800) number, they are vague and don't have any "codes". The automated system still says "scheduled for production, with no date set" and the OC will probably update from "on order" at about the time I take delivery.

Mine has been in the paint shop since 9/20 with an estimated completion date of Tuesday (9/25). I don't think the Germans work on weekends and their work hours during the day are limited (strong, strong unions). What is the Aida and which line does it belong to?

IR DOC - The Aida is an east coast ship I believe the exclusive east coast line is Wallenius Wilhelmsen.
filmateleven - if you call the 800 number and ask for a representative they will be happy to give you a more detailed explanation of the status of your build.
If you began production today a general timeline is 7 days for the build, 7 days to get to port and on a boat and then 14-17 days to get to NJ (I presume you'll be unloaded there since you're in MD). I'd say there's a chance you could make the Aida, or if not the Atlantic Cartier which leaves on 10/6 and arrives in NJ on 10/23.
Congrats on your orders.

The folks at the (800) number say my completion date is 9/30, although the automated system says 10/1. That was all the detail they could give me. How long does it take to get on a ship? When it does, where do I track it from there?

Say "vehicle Production Status"
then say your production number
then say "yes"
then say "production order number"
My car ('08 335xi coupe) was built on 9/10, finished 9/14, got to the port on 9/18, got put on the K-LINE ship "Western highway" which left Bremerhaven on 9-19 and is expect in Baltimore on 10-2. From there, I imagine 10 days to get to me!! (give or take a couple of days).
I can't seem to track the K-line ships - I think its been discussed before that K-line ships can't be tracked like the WW ships. I never realized I would come to know so much about the shipping industry!!!!!!!! I wish I could just forget about it until the car gets here- it is taking up WAAAAAAY too much of my time...

I just called today and the 800 # said my car has also been completed and awaiting transport, but they were unable to say when it would exactly be leaving or on what vessel. Just gave me a rough est of 4 weeks until I will have it... The wait is killin me
extmtnbkr seems like we're in the exact same boat and our vehicles will probably be shipping together since they finished probly on the same day

It sounds like we are in the same holding pattern - with a little luck we'll both be on a boat next week.. I'm going to call on Tuesday or Wednesday and see if they have any more info by then since I just completed production on the 26th.

Supposedly miy new ride completed production on 9/25 and is now in Bremerhaven, awaiting embarkation on the next ship. The 800 number guys say that is the end of the information line they can provide and I must now communicate with the dealer. When I called him, he said he wouldn't be able to tell which specific ship, but would know next week what the expected arrival date in Port Hueneme (Long Beach, CA) would be. How do you learn which specific ship and its date of embarkation from Bremerhaven? Should I assume a 6 week journey from Deutschland to Kalifornia?

Keep bugging your dealer, mine kept saying he had no idea too. Finally, on 9-26 (7 days after the ship had sailed!) he told me that it was on a particular ship (but he didn't even tell me the shipping compnay! I had to search and finally found that it was on a K-Line ship). He still had no idea when it would arrive stateside, I had to dig through the K-Line schedules to find out that it likely would reach Baltimore on 10-2.

Upon checking the website, it appears my car is "en route" as of 10/2, after having been completed on 9/23. Does anyone know what possible shipping lines BMW uses to transport to California?

Update - I'm in transit as of this morning. I'm still waiting for my VIN to pop up on the WW website.
IR DOC - for west coast ships I believe they use K-Line, you can get some ship schedules on their website. Or you can call your dealer.

The website is definitely behind. According to the first page on the Owner's Circle, my car is still "on order". I discovered it actually loaded on the Wallenius Figaro on Sept. 28 in Bremerhaven (it was waiting in port for about 4 days) and is due in Port Hueneme on Oct. 22. It turns out the Figaro can be realtime tracked on http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/shipposition.phtml?call=S6PI.

Mine has been at Bremerhaven since Tuesday. Completion was Monday. I don't know if I made it onto either of the 2 WW ships that sailed today or if I have to wait until the next departure on Monday. How long does it take for the VIN to show up on the WW site?
Mine was completed on the 1st as well! However, BMW NA production status says that it has been released to a carrier and is awaiting transportation to the port of exit since the 2nd. :(
It will take 2-3 days after the ship has set sail for you to be able to find it via VIN number on the WW website.

Your dealer should have the expected arrival date at the port of entry, which for me in California is Port of Hueneme. Once I was told the arrival date, I went to the port's website, looked up their scheduled arrivals and searched each vessel listed (there were about five or six). As luck would have it, the Figaro was the first one I checked and had left Bremerhaven on about the right date (i.e. after my car arrived at port and before the website said I was enroute). I then confirmed the presence of the car on the Figaro by checking the WW site, entering the VIN under the Car Cargo inquiry window. Looks like it's tucked in for its ocean cruise. The whole process is certainly not user-friendly and not for the casual websurfer.

nauticabri - you can go to this site to track all that info: http://www.2wglobal.com/www/WEP/index.jsp.
You can check trade routes from Bremerhaven to New York and get a sense for what ships are leaving around the time you expect to ship. Then you can enter your VIN and it will tell you which ship you're on 3-4 days after the ship departs.
There's a great post over at e90post.com on tracking the ships.

The WW website (http://www.2wglobal.com/www/WEP/index.jsp) takes a few days to register your VIN. My ship left on the 1st and I didn't pop up until the 5th to give you an idea of the lag time.
Once it registers it will tell you when you were booked on the ship and when you were loaded.
Once there you can track the ship by name or callsign. There are various sites for tracking the trip from Germany to Southampton and through the English Channel. The boat should clear into the Atlantic within 4 or 5 days of departure and at that point you can usually track it at http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/index.html.
They usually check in once or twice each day.

The Bimmer is on the way. Finished Production on the 5th of October, Sent to the Port on the 8th, Arrived at the Port on the 9th, Received at Port on the 10th, Loaded on the Vessel on the 11th. YEA! SO PSYCHED!
Now after it docks on the 25th of October in New York how long will it take to go from there to the dealer. The order trakcing site on bmwusa.com say that it must first go to the "BMW Preperation Center" then to the dealer. Should I figure at least a week to get my car after that or less?
I am almost forgetting about the M.

I hope that Tropical Storm Kiko does not become a hurricane, or waits until at least the Figaro has maneuveured more northerly. I wonder how securely the cargo is stored. Would there be potential for damage/movement if there are 30 or 40 foot seas?

My car reached port in Newark NJ 10/15 and I havent been able to get any additional information via the website, the 800 # or my dealership as far as when it might be arriving at my dealership. The website still says en route and the 800# says they lose track of it once it leaves the port and to talk to my dealership. My sales person says we wont know until it pulls in on a truck... Anybody got any insight? It's only going from Newark NJ to Upstate NY not like it has to travel accross the country. How long does it usually take once it reaches port to un-load go thru customs and inspection and whatever it does b4 it reaches my dealership and they spend there 24hour period prepping it and everything so that I can pick it up?
I am in a similar situation. My car arrived at the port on 10/11. Yesterday the website status changed from En Route to at Vehicle Preparation Center. Disappointed it's taking so long as I am not that far from the Prep Center in Westchester County, NY.
