Will 245/45/17 tires fit the rear of a 95 M3?

guys,

I'm planning to replace my rear tires (michelin pilots 245/40/17) on LTW rims 8.5X17, with 245/45/17 tires Toyos. My car is not lowered. Will the new tires scrape the rear fender wall? my front tires are 225/45/17. also, will it look nice with 45 series in the rear? any loss or gain in traction? the tires i'm replacing with are Toyo Proxes T1-S. How are these tires. any comments will do.

Bad idea.... stay with 245/40/17...
Your original 245/40 has 98mm side wall height... (245*0.40)
and increasing to 245/45 will increase that to 110.25mm
which will effectively raise the car by 24.5mm...
(110.25 - 98)*2

It will give the rear tires a doughnut look and your acceleration
will suffer a little...

My car was running on this when I bought it for some extra pothole protection in NYC. A dealer recommended it to my friend. There was absolutely no problem. I do agree with JT-KGY that there may be a slight performance difference and the car may be slightly taller BUT when I switched back to 40s I really noticed the increased fender gap with my stock suspension...

bottom line - it will fit fine.

shoudl i go with yokohama AVS or with TOYO PROXES T1-S, i decided to go with 245/40/17 rears and 225/45/17 fronts. if any of u guys know of any local stores in S. Cal...please give me names of stores so i can call price checks

(110.25 - 98)*2Almost. It should be (110.25-98) <b>divided by</b> 2 = 6.12mm, or a little less than 1/4 inch higher off the ground. (assuming your other numbers are correct)

the 45 is the ratio of the sidewall height to the width. If the sidewall height changes one inch, the car's height changes one inch. Think about it.

The tire will also stick into the fender one extra inch, but that doesn't change the ride height.

Sorry, but I think both of you are off by a bit. The difference in sidewall height is (110.25 - 98), or 12.25mm higher. This will raise the car by 12.25mm, since only one sidewall is under the car. It will change the diameter of the tire 12.25 * 2 = 24.5mm, since there's one sidewall of the tire at the top, and one at the bottom.

I had AVS Sport on before.. very nice and grippy tires... the
thread life is avg... it lasted 20k miles for me...
I've heard many good things about T1-S though never try it
myself yet... it is however slightly lighter than AVS Sport
(in weight)...
But if you're replacing all 4 tires at once... why not go for
235/40/17 all around... many people recommends that this setup
gives the most neutral handling setup for our M3s...

the reason why is bc i have the staggered wheels..........7.5 front and 8.5 rears........if that is the case, i have a set of 235/40/17 in my garage off my old 10-spoke rims. ...will the 235/40/17 fill up the rear?.....that what i want is to fill it up......since it's "235", will it be too narrow for the 8.5?
