My 328xi came in today (I LOVE THIS CAR) but now that I am home and the dealer is closed I have two questions that I hope someone can help me out with.

1) When I first locked my car at the dealer I got a chirp from the horn letting me know the car was locked (same as all other cars). When I got home and locked the car it appeared to lock but no chirp... I also noticed that the gas lid didn't lock which I was told it did when ever the car was locked.

2) Secondly, I have the factor installed IPOD adapter (Non-IDrive). Should it have come with a 2nd cable (Y-Cable) If I plug in my regular Ipod sync cable that came with my Ipod it seems to work but the manual indicates that I should have a cable that plugs into ports 1 and 2 in the car?

Otherwise I love this car?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Yes, it should have come with a second cable that plugs into 1 & 2. I know this because I am waiting for mine from my dealer that forgot to include it. With regard to the chirp, it's a user settable function accessed via the button on the end of the turn signal stalk. Check the first few pages of the user manual to understand it. Had our 328xi (premium, cold, sport, sirius, ipod) for a week now and love it.

Have fun!

Thanks for the help. I am working my way through the manual and but now I at least know where to look. I have a email into the dealer for the adapter. I would think he would know about this... oh well.

Thanks again

Unfortunately it seems dealers aren't familiar with this accessory but my dealer was quick to remedy. I'm taking pity on you, the confirmation procedure is on the bottom of page 20, lower right.

And case you need any documentation that the dealer is supposed to supply the iPod Y-Cable for free, check this link:

I called my dealer about the missing Y cable for the ipod adapter. At first they didn't know anything about it. After talking to their parts guy they said the had them in stock and that they would send me one but indicated that these were for the early model 2007s and I shouldn't need it. Anyone else have this experience? Also, does the new cable fix problems with playlists? Because none of mine are showing up when I use the regular ipod sync cable.

Yes it does. using a regular USB cable would only make the iPod show up as a USB storage disk, thus you'll see directories and none of the iPod playlists would show up. The Y-cable gives you full iPod integration and even the icon on the radio display will indicate iPod not USB.

They've got it backwards. The pre-March '07 models did not have the 6FL option so therefore no Y-Cable. I know this because I have a 12/06 build and the 6FL option was not available to me. The post-March '07 models had the option available and the required cable should come with it for free.

Oops, I was just about to call my dealer with my lack of an iPod cable, as discussed here and in the letter referencing the 6FL option. I own an '07 328xi with iPod adapter and no cable. My car is CPO car that is probably in the pre-March production. Has anyone had luck having the dealer supply this cable anyhow? Fwiw, I was set to buy an iPod cable from Best Buy when I saw the letter referencing the 6FL option. Oth, I drove my car on a three hour trip and finally started using the Sirius satellite radio. I don't think I will be going back to conventional FM. :cool

Here's the situation. The 6FL option, which places a USB jack along with the AUX jack in the center console was NOT available pre-March '07. So if your car was built before that, you couldn't possibly have the 6FL option. The Y-Cable ONLY works with the 6FL option. If your car was built AFTER March '07 AND you have the 6FL option (again, you will see a USB jack in your center console) then your car should have come with a Y-Cable to connect your iPod.

On pre-March '07 cars and post-March '07 cars WITHOUT 6FL, you can still get the Dealer Installed iPod adatper which will run you ~$500 and resides in the glove box. It will charge and integrate right into the stereo just like 6FL but from what has been discussed here, the software on the 6FL is much better.

I have a pre-March '07 car with the dealer installed iPod adapter and it is so-so. I have a large music collection (full 60GB iPod) and it is VERY slow to read the artist/album folders and stops at 255 entries (known limitation). It works well for Playlists but beyond that it kinda stinks.

Hope this helps clear it up for you.
