Umm...I havent heard of them being called that but its probably the same thing. Well I've seen full M3 brake kits sell for $350 lately so I'm hoping to find some for $200 or less.

Joe, have you tried Pacific BMW? This seems like a part that should not be *too* expensive. Seems like about a $100 to $150 kind of part to me. Of course if you used your local dealer, it would probably go for about $500 :(

Thanks Bernman, I'll give them a call tomorrow. Zionsville wanted $300 for a set of used 95 spindles.

do you have the m3 calipers... cause i really didnt see a difference in my spindle vs the m3 spindle ...my e36 brake caliper holder ( the part that holds the brakes) all bolts in exactly with m3 ones ....but i just did the whole m3 brake swap cause i didnt want to hassle if it didnt work...

I have been told that there are other minor differences to the M3 spindle, but I do not have any first hand data yet. I plan to make measurements when I do the swap.

I upgraded my brakes to M3's, had to change the spindle.
I originally ordered just the calipers and rotors, they would not line up with my original caliper brackets. But then again, mine was a 318 so you never know.....

Wassup James...
I did the swap on his car, and it deff. requires M3 spindles. The carrier treads are diff. for the 318/m3. You cvannot mount a M3 carrier on a 318 spindle... Someone should really come up with a bracket, or a carrier that will mount to a 318 spindle

Thanks for the info guys.
I'm actually going to be mounting some e46 M3 brakes onto my car. Madox, where did you get your spindles from if you dont mind me asking?

Hey stranger, haven't heard from ya in a long time Chris :)

Thanks James.
It looks like I might need to get the entire M3 brake conversion just to get the spindles.

Stranger... I haven't heard from you guys in a while.. I see Sam from time to time, but haven't heard anything from anyone else. I heard there were a few big BMW meets in town, too bad I either never heard of them or was outa town.
Call junkyards for the spindles. That's the best chance you have. Most people will not split up the combo... Just make sure they are selling you M3 spindles :D

Biotch haha :D You refering to me? lol
Yeah...I got ripped off, bought some from junkyard....and they turned out to be spindles from a 325 instead.
Hey Chris, did you ever find the rear shocks and springs for my car? I have a buyer that wants to take the PSS kit off my hand. Thanks!! :help :)

I wasn't directly refering to you ;) I have them set out and ready to be installed... In fact I pulled them outa the attic a few weeks ago... But someone hasn't contacted me. Call me at the shop if you wanna come by and swap them out... shouldn't take long at all. 713-975-9222 is the shop number.

Cool, I have a week of vacation starting thursday. I'll give you a call.
Oh yeah, BTW, Joe:
I still have the used 97 M3 front rotors, never got to use them. Installed the zimmerman cross drilled M3 rotors instead on my car.
Let me know if you want them.

$300 for a set of used spindles is not a bad price at all.

Thanks James, but I'm going to be using the e46 M3 rotors and calipers instead.
Dan, I thought that was kind of high considering there have been full M3 brake conversions going for $350 or less lately.

$350 is low for a full M3 brake conversion but I was hoping to find just some spindles since I wont be using the e36 M3 brakes. Thats what I meant from that statement.

The 95 and 96+ knuckles are different. The 96+ ones gives more negative camber which more or less cancels with the offset strut mounts.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll try to find some 95 ones then.

Can somebody (hccyong?) explain this further. I understand the 'gives more negative camber' but don't understand the rest...
Thanks,

Thanks,
As far as I know, on the 96+ M3s, the strut mount is slight more outboard, which brings the camber about 0.7 degrees toward the positive side. This is more or less offset by the steering knuckle/spindle being at a slightly different angle to the strut.
In other words, with both of these changes on the 96+ M3, the camber ends up being near the same (but not exactly) as the 95 M3. However, the roll center moves as a result.

Good find. But the part number they gave (31 21 2 227 357) shows up for the M3 3.0, so their saying that it's for 1996 as well is probably incorrect.
