Hey! My first post here and new to understanding bimmers...the brand of car with attitude problems. I have a 96 328i still runnin with 175k. For the past month the sec air pump has been making the classic noises, except I never realized what was causing the noise until I joined this great place today and found out. Yea! I don't know why I'm excited about that... anyway, from what I could gather from other people's experience with the sec pump, that growling vacuum noise only occurred in the morning. Yea, the noise happens in the morning to me too, but it dosen't end there. Everytime I idle, no matter if its hot or cold out, it sounds like a disposer mauling a cat. Air doesn't even blow from the pump and today it smelled like rubber was burning and the pump started to shriek. It hasen't skrieked that way since the first week the pump started to make noise. I would really appreciate any feedback on this growl box and especially on the belts that surround that area. I think the rubber smell might be a belt giving way, but I have no idea of which one. If anyone has the pump and valve for sale, I'd be really happy!
Thanks for everyone's help!

heres a pic. i bought it for the check valve on the other end of the rubber hose you see there. you'll notice the different size rubber hose though. the 328 check valve is mounted farther away and requires a longer hose. the pump itself is essentially the same (plug 'n play) also you'd need to purchase the 3 rubber mounts which mount the metal bracket to the pump (fr. pelicanparts.com; a few bucks) that notoriously break off when you remove the pump; basically you'd need to buy the 3 mounts and a new hose; let me know if you're interested
