How do you go about getting insurance. For example, theres a lot of guys on here that started with 318s and s52 (M3) swapped. Theres also a couple e30 guys whose cars started as 318/325s and have s52/s54 motors. Do you guys pay insurance as if you've got a stock car or do you report the motor swap and take the extra hit on insurance? Are there insurance companies that cover mods without slamming you on your rate?

Just curious, as there are a lot of guys on here with s52 swapped cars.

Im not one of the motor swap people but my guess is that you just pay the insurance for what the car is. Someone correct me if im wrong, but I think only about 50% of insurances will cover some mods if you pay extra and I believe there might be circumstances and its really just not worth the extra cash.

State Farm doesn't allow anything, but I was reading there policy..... and I did learn something intresting.....

for the people with an e36 m3, you are free to swap the euro motor in there :)

It states the engine must be off the same year, make and model ;)

pay the insurance rates that are applicable to your VIN, the insurance company doesn't need to know that you don't have the stock motor in there, nor will they be able to tell. If you still feel nervous, just put the non-M plastic valve cover on there.

Pretty much

Yeah you go by the vehicle VIN and make/model. You never get back what you put into the car even if its through insurance. Whether that means body modifications, stereo or engine. There are ways to insure some things such as stereo systems exc, but I believe that falls under home owners insurance. Correct me if I am wrong.
