If you can find CSL reps with low offset and 74.1mm hub measurement, then, yeah. Otherwise, no.

The wheels I'm looking at are e46 M3 fitment... would I need a spacer for the front? Hub rings? or is this too much hassle?

Not only would you need about a 20mm or 25mm spacer up front, you'll also have to have the hub bore machined out to 74.1mm. Also would need longer wheel bolts for the fronts.
IMO, too much hassle and added expenses. Better to get wheels made for the E39 5 series with proper hub bore and offsets

+1.
I don't think CSL reps are available for E39s, but if you really want the CSL reps on your car, it is possible and it just depends if you really want to go through all that hassle or not.
As stated above, you need spacers for the front as they are high offset. Rears are in the 22mm range, so spacers are not required for the rear. But bore has to be machined to 74.1mm on all 4.

We can sell you CSL reps that are low offset, ET22.
You would have to run Rogue Engineering spacers, which convert your hub centers over to the E36/46/etc hubs.

OK now this really explains it. The CSL is a nice wheel but I don't absolutely have to have it on my e39. The reason I asked is because someone offered them to me for cheap and since I'm looking for wheels I thought I'd ask before I bought. Yeah that really seems like a hassle just for some rims... I'll probably be going for some 18" style 42's w/ a lip. Thanks for your help everyone!

I have pictures of it on a E39. I just have to get it onto my site.
