After a compounding the pad was all red! I heard that that color has no clearcoat, but that seems strange, what is the benefit? How can I better protect it? The car is a 1993 325is, in brillant red. sorry for the stupid questions.

Nope, your car doesn't have a clearcoat. Don't worry though, the paint is still fine, clearcoat is a relatively new protection process. To protect it, just keep a coat of wax or sealant on it and it should be fine.
