Are you sure you don't mean OBD1 and OBD2?

If you are, it refers to the version of on-board diagnostics. OBD1 is found in cars made in 1995 or before, OBD2 is everything post 1996. It's the system you check when your check engine light comes on and it tells you (hopefully) which sensor is not working and that sort of thing.
