View Full Version : Active Autowerke Gen. 3 Exhaust GB ($549-$569)
Micah D. Cranman
03-12-2003, 03:37 AM
Not one to rest on his laurels, I've decided to take on another group purchase on the heels of the very successful UUC Stage II Lightweight Flywheel group purchase. (http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=769689) Without further ado, I present to you:
The Active Autowerke Gen. 3 E36 High Flow Exhaust Blowout
UPDATE: There's a new AA Track Pipe GB I'm also running to complement this group purchase. Click here to check it out! (http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=802899)
http://m3motorwerks.com/images/groupbuys/aaexhaustgb.jpg
Pricing: (NOTE: pricing is for total exhausts purchased, not just from one category). E36 straight tips (fits 92-99 E36 325i/328i/M3): 5+ buyers - $569, 10+ buyers - $559, 15+ buyers - $549 | Up to $100 off
E36 DTM tips: 5+ buyers - $659, 10+ buyers - $649, 15+ buyers - $639 | Up to $110 off
All others: E-mail me (mailto:info@m3motorkwerks.com) for now as I'm still finalizing pricing. Here are the nitty-gritty details: The group buy ends Monday, April 7. UPDATE: THE GROUP PURCHASE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO MONDAY, APRIL 21!
When you place your order, I will send it to AA in 3-4 business days and it will ship as soon as they process it and as long as they have stock on the exhaust. NO MORE WAITING! (Please keep in mind that as of 3-17-03, AA has 3 more units in stock that I know of and will be getting more stock in approximately 2.5 weeks. Order now so you can get one!) As the number of purchasers increases, I'll refund the appropriate amount. (For example, if you pay me $569 at the 5+ level, I'll refund $10 when we break 10 buyers).
Shipping is around $30, give or take -- e-mail me (mailto:info@m3motorwerks.com) with your zip and I'll give you an exact figure.
I'll update you EVERY step of the way. No confusion, no unexpected delays. Just good communication and a good product at a great price -- I promise. UPDATE: Those who have already placed their order will have their exhausts shipped as soon as AA processes the order. I just spoke with Ray at AA and he's going to send these out right away.
Want more info on the incredible, incomparable ("Hype," you say? No way!) Active Autowerke Exhaust systems: http://www.aatuning.com/exhaust/default.asp

What email address do I send to? That "info" one listed in your sig, or do you have a separate one for orders?
Micah D. Cranman
03-12-2003, 10:28 AM
Ron (and everyone else, for that matter), info@m3motorwerks.com is essentially a universal address for everything. You can send orders there, absolutely.
On that note, to make payment, simply PayPal the appropriate amount (check with me for shipping, first!) to info@m3motorwerks.com and be sure to include your name, BF.c screen name, address, and the item you're purchasing.

I'm waiting on my tax return to be depositted. The estimate was for tomorrow, so we'll see. I will promise everyone this, though...
If it comes down to it and we need one more, yet my return still hasn't been depositted, I'll go ahead and pay on a credit card to get this thing going, then pay it off with the return. :D
Believe me, I'm just ITCHING for this!!
By the way, we just need one more person to commit and that's the five (assuming all committed persons pay)!!

"Relax, I'm a professional!" ;)
Guys, it's NO big deal. We'll definitely get enough people for this GP. I've been trying to get a hold of the folks at DTM Power so I can start advertising there -- as soon as I do, I'll post this on DTM.
If, by some act of nature or the Almighty Himself we don't get 5 payments by March 24, I'll ship out the orders that I've gotten so far. Cool? :)
Micah D. Cranman
03-14-2003, 10:58 AM
UPDATE: Just spoke with Ray at Active Autowerke regarding their stock levels on these exhausts. Ray's got 8 exhausts in stock right now. So, if you want to be sure that you'll get an exhaust shipped out when the order goes in, you need to get in on this ASAP. Otherwise, you'll have to wait for AA to produce more, which may take several weeks.
Hurry up, folks! We gotta get rockin' on this thing! :buttrock
In the meantime, for the folks who've already placed their order with me, I'm going to make payment to AA to reserve exhausts for you within the next several business days. They won't ship out until we've got 5, but you'll be sure to get yours. :)

Just a question - so don't get too excited. I'm new to BMW - I have a 1997 328is 5sp. It was kind of hammered before I got it. But one of the things I wanted to replace was the exhaust. Is this exhaust a real good one or just middle of the road (don't flame me-just asking....) With my CRX rebuild I got stuck with some ok stuff. I didn't intend to buy the exhaust this soon but if it's a great exhaust at a good price I'll see what I can do.
Thanks for any info.

I am definetly planning on getting the AA chip, intake, and exhaust combo... just need to figure out the money thing, only thing holding me back :)
Btw, WhippedButter, is there any plans for a GB on the AA intakes? I think there currently is a GB on the chip going on that I may jump in on as well.
Just give me a few days to figure this out and I'll be sure to let you guys know.

Actually I think I"m going to go with the PAR intake now and save $200 or so :)
Excellent GB (http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=82570) going on now to get the PAR intakes for $150, highly recommended.
As for the exaust I'm still interested. Will know for certain soon.

Chad
Micah D. Cranman
03-17-2003, 08:39 AM
While it is legal is California, I don't believe that it will fit a 323. :bawl
AA doesn't list the 323 as an application for the exhaust, so I'm pretty sure it won't work. However, just to be sure I'll give them a ring in 20 minutes or so after they open up this morning and confirm for you.

So what are our numbers, Micah?
KaotikM3 up there says he sent you an email, so my my count, that's four. I'm ready to go on this!!!
Must.... have.... AA... exhaust... soon... SERIOUSLY!!!
Micah D. Cranman
03-17-2003, 09:09 AM
Ron, KaotikM3 would make number 5, actually. I have another fellow who hasn't posted in the thread but who wants an exhaust and is in as of a few days ago. He's planning on making payment on the 30th, though, so we'll probably have someone jump in before him. :) Soon enough, guys, soon enough!

UPDATE: Those who have already placed their order will have their exhausts shipped as soon as AA processes the order. I just spoke with Ray at AA and he's going to send these out right away.

Ron, I'm honestly not sure. Ray seemed to indicate that these would be going out in short order, so I'd expect them heading out today or tomorrow sometime, maybe Wednesday.
Shipping time is however long it takes to get from AA (Miami, FL) to Atlanta via FedEx or UPS ground. So, probably 3 days or so. You just might get it before the weekend. :)

Well, it's going to be shipping soon!
AA just tried to process the order, but my business credit card (goes directly to my bank account) was declined -- even though I've got plenty of balance left over. Apparently they don't want me spending over $6K a day (another very large transaction went through today for my UUC LTW flywheel group purchase). :biglaughb OOPS! :D So, the order will go through tomorrow morning.

03-17-2003, 05:18 PM
hey guys, I just sent in my payment through paypal...let me know whats goin on with shipping and what not...I might be also joining in on the track pipe so is it possible to save on shipping for both of these?....on another note, I was wondering if I could order an X-Brace through you WhippedButter and get it shipped along with my exhaust...thx
Micah D. Cranman
03-17-2003, 07:36 PM
Thanks -- I just got your payment, Raymond! :)
I'd love to have you onboard for the AA track pipe purchase, but unfortunately we won't be able to save you any on shipping -- both items are very large and require their own box. Additionally, it's likely that the exhaust and track pipe will ship at different times, so it would be hard to send them together.
As far as the X-brace, right now we haven't started carrying them even though they are an excellent and popular upgrade -- because we're still fairly small and don't have a need to purchase them in bulk, we can't get pricing that we feel would be competitive or fair to our customers.
Sure, I could buy it from Pacific BMW and tack on $20 and say it was still under retail price, but I'd much prefer that you get the better deal. So, best bet is to just head to www.pacificbmw.com for the X-brace right now. :)

03-18-2003, 09:47 AM
Do we have a Tuesday morning update?
Micah D. Cranman
03-18-2003, 10:19 AM
We sure do. Ray and the gang at AA went to a seminar this morning so the order ISN'T going to process until tomorrow. I'm guessing Ray forgot about it yesterday when we were discussing it.
I asked to see if anyone else at AA could send the order out today, but they said no. :dunno Oh, well, just another day, right? And hey, it's still sooner than you would've gotten it anyway! :)

Yes, I think it will be very apparent if they are not good. In other words, noticeable tears in the rubber.
I would assume that www.bimmerparts.com would also stock them. Check there, also.
You just need two as far as I know.
Firefighter
03-19-2003, 10:02 AM
Bimmerparts.com shows some for like $5, the ones on AA are $70
Are they the same??? Big price difference.
Ron17
03-19-2003, 10:33 AM
Hmm... I would've figured that the AA ones would be substantially more expensive, but not THAT much.
I'm pretty sure the ones you find on www.bimmerparts.com are the OEM hangers that you would need. Perhaps someone else can verify.
Micah, do you have some good news for us this morning? Like... "Guys, your exhausts are shipping as we speak. You should receive tracking numbers in short order." :D
Micah D. Cranman
03-19-2003, 12:41 PM
Guys, your exhausts are shipping as we speak! I should have tracking numbers in short order! :D
Raymond, since you sent your payment in just a little bit later, your order will process within the next couple of days -- probably around Friday.
Beemin 323: This specific exhaust won't fit your car, but AA makes an E46 exhaust for the 323 that will fit. Retail is $589 + $49 shipping. To be fair, I'll give you $80 off to start just like the other guys, so your price would be $509 + $49 shipping with a $10 refund if we reach 10+ buyers and another $10 refund if we reach 15+ buyers. Let me know if you have any questions.

I honestly don't know, but I suspect that they are indeed the same since AA compares the pricing to BMW list. If I were you, I'd just buy the $5 pieces from bimmerparts.com. I'll check w/ AA in the morning.

I can't wait to get mine!!!!
I don't know what the difference is, but they do look different.
AA's say "exhaust hangers" and bimmerparts.com say "muffler hangers". I don't know if they are different parts or not.
Oh well, maybe I can get under there today and take a look and see if they are good or not.

Chad -- oops, I think I got confused because your signature has "E46" in it and I just assumed you had an E46 323. I've send Ray at AA an e-mail about this and he'll let me know if he's got an E36 323 application. Sorry for the confusion.

How many buyers we have had now?
Anyone has pics with AA exhaust and non-M3 stock bumper? I want to see if it looks OK on non-M3 bumper.
Thanks.

do you e-mail our tracking numbers to us? I know that mine may not have been sent out yet but just for my informative nature...

Ok, here's the deal -- AA DOES NOT make an exhaust for the E36 323. HOWEVER, you can fit a Gen. 3 E36 exhaust if you purchase an AA track pipe as well. This is because, normally, the 323 exhaust collects from two tubes into one, so the Gen. 3 exhaust won't mate up. The track pipe keeps the tubes separate and allows the Gen. 3 to connect.
I say you go for it -- more power, great sound, AND I've got a great GB going on the track pipes, too. Click the link in my signature for more info.
cly325i: We have 4 buyers so far -- you would make 5.
Raymond: Yes, the tracking numbers have gone out. Your exhaust will probably ship tomorrow or Monday, at which point I'll get a tracking number right to you. :)

I'm deciding between AA & SS. Do you have price for SS too?
Micah D. Cranman
03-20-2003, 04:54 PM
We aren't yet dealers for SS. :( So, I don't have a price for you. I can say for sure, however, that it WOULDN'T be as good a deal as this AA price. :)

To say nothing of the quality of SS exhausts -- I hear they sound pretty damn good and look great -- I *CAN* tell you that everywhere I looked had the price at considerably more than the AA unit.

micah, sounds good, but i'm in california.... and the track pipe gb says it s not for cali residents. so that means i wouldnt pass smog right? unless i switched the pipes right? let me know. Thanks for all your help,
Chad

Chad, you would NOT pass smog with the track pipe on the car. So, when inspection time comes, you'd need to put the old exhaust system back on the car and then reinstall the AA system after the smog test. This, of course, would be illegal, but you'd pass.

Micah,
Can you get me any deal on some H&R lowering springs for my '97 M3 sedan. I am not sure which ones I need. I want to lower the front about an inch.
Should I get the OE springs, or the sport springs?
I like the way the rear sits now, it's just the front that needs to come down.
Thanks
Tim

Absolutely. I just updated the M3 motorwerks product catalog to include a BUNCH of new suspension products, including H&R springs. For what you're looking for, H&R OE sports (Lowers F:0.75", R:0.3") are going to be best, but you MIGHT not be happy with how much they lower, especially if you're running Bilstein shocks. (How old are your shocks? If they're getting some miles on them - 30K or so - it might make sense for you to replace those too while you're in there. I recommend Koni Adjustables).
Head to www.m3motorwerks.com and click "suspension." You'll find just what you need in there. :) E-mail me if you have any questions!

UPDATE: Well, looks like AA's run out of these exhausts, so any orders placed now will ship out in around 2-3 weeks. I may extend the group purchase depending on when these become available. If anyone's got questions, let me know.
Ron, glad to see you're happy with your purchase. :)

Will this exhaust stick out more with a non-M3 bumper or is it another version that is made for non-M3 one? TIA.

Raymond, no, you didn't. :( I sent you an e-mail but I guess it got lost or something. Like I said above, ETA is 2-3 weeks. I can hold your order and get an exhaust out as soon as they've got one available or I can refund your order -- let me know what you'd like to do.
cly325i: Yes, it will stick out a bit more than a stock exhaust on a non-M3 bumper. There is only one version for the E36.

Hey, good news Raymond! Looks like AA's gonna be able to squeeze one more out for me, so you'll get your exhaust soon after all. It should go out today -- will have a tracking number today or tomorrow for you!

First page:
Active Autowerke Gen. 3 Exhaust GB ($549-$569) (Post #1)
Not one to rest on his laurels, I've decided to take on another group purchase on the heels of the very successful UUC Stage II Lightweight Flywheel group purchase. Without further ado, I present to you:
The Active Autowerke Gen. 3 E36 High Flow Exhaust Blowout
UPDATE: There's a new AA Track Pipe GB I'm also running to complement this group purchase. Click here to check it out!
http://m3motorwerks.com/images/groupbuys/aaexhaustgb.jpg
Pricing: (NOTE: pricing is for total exhausts purchased, not just from one category).
E36 straight tips (fits 92-99 E36 325i/328i/M3): 5+ buyers - $569, 10+ buyers - $559, 15+ buyers - $549 | Up to $100 off
E36 DTM tips: 5+ buyers - $659, 10+ buyers - $649, 15+ buyers - $639 | Up to $110 off
All others: E-mail me for now as I'm still finalizing pricing.
Here are the nitty-gritty details:
The group buy ends Monday, April 7.
Order now so you can get one!)
As the number of purchasers increases, I'll refund the appropriate amount. (For example, if you pay me $569 at the 5+ level, I'll refund $10 when we break 10 buyers).
Shipping is around $30, give or take -- e-mail me with your zip and I'll give you an exact figure.

No, you can definitely still get in. It's $569 + $49 shipping. I've actually got one exhaust still available that will ship immediately, but it might get sold in which case you'll have to wait for AA to get more of these in stock, which should be about 1.5-2.5 weeks.
When you're ready to order, just click the PayPal link in my signature and be sure to include your shipping address and phone number! :)
