94 325is with about 220k miles and been running like a champ, it has some mods like exhaust and Turner chip thats been in for a few years.
Anyway, this morning he started the car and while it was sitting and idling for a minute while he adjusted his climate control, he put it in reverse and went about 30 feet and then it just died, died flat, no sputter or anything, just died.
After that he tried starting it and it was turning over but wouldn't start, like it wasn't getting fuel maybe.
Brainstorming I thought maybe water on the ECU from the storm last night but not sure if it would have started at all if that was the case, then thinking maybe the crankshaft position sensor but I'm not sure what happens when that goes bad.
Any ideas?

Do an actual test for spark and fuel. The engine can turn over even if the ecu is done for, it just wont get spark and fuel. If the Crank position sensor went bad, you wouldnt get spark or fuel, if the cam position sensor went, you wouldnt get fuel. If youre getting spark but not fuel, check the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump fuse.
