View Full Version : can someone set up an Alpine GP for the 7894
ClubSport332ti

Since these models are discontinued, can somone set up a GP or something? Most ebay sellers are letting these go for around $279 so I assume in numbers you can lower that price significantly:dunno

Yea, that would definetly be great. I am definetly looking for a new head unit and now since the 7984 are being replace by the newer 90xx ones, they are definetly going for a lot cheaper now.
A GB on this would be most excellent, I definetly would be in if someone set one up.

Really, CC is selling them for around $230? That would still be a great deal in its self, as I was looking to spend around $250 on a new head unit.
Is this a national price or specific to store? I'm in the Northern VA area. Thanks.

Can you pick up like 5-10 of these for us? I will buy it for $230

I think X'z95M3 stated that this was circuit city's cost from the manufacturer, not the sell price to the end user or customer. I don't think he meant to imply that this was what the unit was being sold for @ circuit city.

Why don't we figure out exactly how many people are seriously in on this and contact other vendors about a GB. $5 off is insulting :nono and if this is the most he will budge on the price then I say screw him. If his cost is around Circuit City's then he is making $45 per unit times however many people are in on this. I am sure there are other vendors that would be willing to drop the price a bit more to have this kind of cash in their pocket...

Hello,
I have 10 buyers with cash ready to pay for this radio from bimmerforums.com, an automotive enthusiast web page for BMW owners. The owner's of the M3 model have chosen this unit due to its close OEM resemblance and extensive features as it's radio of choice. Please let me know what you best price is on this radio, if low enough we will all purchase from your company (provided that you have enough units in stock). Sorry , I haven't replied to earlier posts... BTW, CC's cost around $230... That is for fully warranteed product by the manufacturer...When you see these people selling on Ebay and such, they are operating on about the same margin at these low prices because it's usually B-stock,refurb's, grey market... I'm sorry I don;t have the means to do this through work, however I do have a couple dealer accounts with wholesaler's that I can try... I haven't used these in a while, but I should be able to find something out... The prices are usually very, very close to CC's cost ( on this unit was around $230 ) but I'll warn you the best connection I have does carry product with no manfacturer's warrantee, it comes with a third party warrantee (same terms as Alpine usually) I'll call them tomarrow and let you guys know either way...
95black318i
03-14-2003, 12:51 AM
If I'm not mistaken, Alpine does not honor their warantee unless it is installed by a "authorized Alpine dealer."

Here's a funny response I rec'd from Crutchfield after I sent them a sarcastic e-mail. Bottom line: They feel that their customer service and basic business practices are worth a $130 premium (48% of the purchase price!) on this unit.
<read from bottom to top>
Hi,
Thanks for your e-mail, and shopping the Crutchfield web site.
In answer to your question about prices, we don't match prices - we
prefer to exceed value.
I wish I could match the price you're quoting, but in order to be fair
to all of our customers, we do not negotiate prices. If you're confident
that you'll get the same service and support that you get from
Crutchfield if you purchase your Alpine receiver elsewhere at a lower
price, I'd be foolish to tell you not to do it.
I can certainly understand why you'd want to save more money, but before
you make a purchase somewhere else, you'll want to make sure that you'll
be getting everything you get when you purchase from Crutchfield:
Knowledgeable and friendly Product Advisors available 16 hours a day to
answer your questions (and e-mail), and make sure you buy the gear that
is best suited to your needs.
Toll-free technical support - Any questions about operating or
installing your new equipment? We're here to help you out 16 hours a
day.
An unconditional, 30-day, money-back, Total Satisfaction guarantee,
backed by the best customer service staff in the industry.
Free consumer guides to help you get the most out of your equipment.
The full manufacturer's warranty (we're factory authorized dealers for
every product we sell, unlike most catalog and nearly all Internet
retailers). What a relief! No frantic searching for help when you need
it.
In-house factory authorized warranty service for most products. Again,
what a relief! No frantic searching for help when you need it.
2-3 day express shipping to all 50 states is standard for $15.99 or less
(usually less!), and Priority Mail shipping for orders shipping outside
the continental U.S. at no extra charge!
Free return shipping on any item with which you're not completely
satisfied from anywhere in the continental U.S. (excluding items that
must be shipped by truck freight).
No re-stocking fees on returns > if original packaging and accessories
are included, and return is made > within 30-day Satisfaction Guarantee
period.
No sales tax collected on items shipped outside the state of Virginia.

Azdolt> No problem, thanks for your comments. I have e-mailed them to confirm there will be an existing warranty and will post the results upon receiving a response.
I also e-mailed them to get an idea of what shipping would be but they said it was a function of the weight and destination. I was trying to gauge whether they would build shady profit into the shipping prices. I will still badger them about this. Sometimes retailers will cut the prices of their products to attract buyers then charge inflated shipping to make up for the price cuts.
$269 would be a decent deal as alot of eBay auctions are ending higher than this. Who knows if some of these units are factory refurbished or B-stock items?

Mr2Guy said he would do it for $270 plus $10 shipping.
So if Carstereoexpo.com is going to charge us more than $11 for shipping we should go with Mr2Guy.
Please set up something soon, before we have a mutany.

Sorry for the late reply, we have recently finished moving our warehouse and have only began settling down. Someone else also contacted me about a group buy. I have explained to that individual that the profits for these items are extremely slim and there cannot be much further discounts. So please do not take our offer as an insult. The best I can do is $280 shipped if the item is paid for by a source that will not cost me additional fees.

Oook, I can't wait anymore :redspot. I'm willing to do the $279 dealy plus shipping. My only caveat is that I be able to pay with CC for protection for me - VISA provides some kind of warranty I think if manufacturer bails out. Can someone give me a number to call and order this!!
You can be my friend too Compact 6, but doesn't mean you get a HU just yet :devillook hehe.

Here is the response from Carstereoexpo.com. I would guess they retain the mfr's warranty since they are brand new units.
If you guys want to proceed with this please let me know how many of you want to order. We need 6+ to get the $269 price and they told me shipping would avg b/t $10 & $15 (no shady profit built in).
Thanks!

COMPACT6>
I can check. I was trying to accomodate the buyers that were growing impatient with this "GB."
Seems alot of people know someone who could possibly hook us up with a great deal but nothing ever seems to materialize.
If I had a choice, I would rather buy from a retailer than eBay, given the same price.
To answer your question, if there are less than 6 people interested in making this purchase, then I will e-mail the carstereoexpo and let them know that there price wasn't quite low enough to attract 6 buyers. Maybe I could use this as leverage to obtain a further discount? I have tried to get them lower but they seem pretty firm at this point.
Anyway, we'll see how it goes. Let me know if you have any further suggestions.

Ok, I'm confused as usual :( carstereoexpo's $279 deal won't have ANY manufacturer warranty?
Then again, let me follow up by saying, I've had 4 Alpine HU's incl. the previous two versions of this HU, AND this exact one, and I've had no issues. But its good knowing that I can get it fixed if anything happens.
hc1001

i think u get a 30 day warranty from car expos. after that the manufacturers warranty is there. so if it breaks within the 30 days car expos will replace it. but if its after 30 days then u will have to go through alpine. i think....

Ok, it is apparent that you guys are really looking for a much better deal than $269.00. I have e-mailed a bunch more online retailers that stock this unit asking about a group buy with 10+ members. As the responses come in I will keep you guys posted as to the results. If we can get someone down to $250 would most of you guys be in (assuming reasonable shipping)?
Since there is a new model replacing this unit I would think that this would be a good opportunity for the retailers to get rid of their inventory. They would have to mark it down anyway because of the new models.

I agree, $250 would be great, and $250 shipped would be even better.
I'm assuming we need to give it a little time for the newer 9xxx models to trickle in and then I'm sure vendors would be lowering their prices even more to clear out the older 7xxx ones.
Good job with this though, psychocandy. Thanks.

Oh man...I'm getting impatient here. Is there 5 guys who are willing to buy at $269?? I'll buy this weekend! If not, can I call up carstereoexpo and tell them I'm part of bimmerforums, and get 30 off?? They have them on list for $299 there.
psychocandy
03-22-2003, 10:03 AM
Unfortunately, I think the carstereoexpo price is contingent on 6 + buyers. I only had one affirmative response on this price. I haven't heard from any other retailers, so I think $269 is as low as it's going to get for now. Compact6 may be right though, as time goes on it will become more imperative that the dealers move the inventory on the older models and more substantial savings might be an option.

In the SF bay area, the GoodGuys used to carry the 7894, but about a week ago, I went to 3 different store and none of them carry the 7894 anymore (except for 1 store with a return unit). I never seen them having a sale on it...so I don't know where they all went. As far as I can tell, the only difference with the 7894 and the replacement is WMA support, which I will be avoid using anyways, and the MSRP for the new one is $429.

I'm still in, as long as this dosn't take too much longer. I think that we should jump on this now because this is a discontinued model that's obviously in high demand. The more that it's in demand, the less we're gonna see the price drop and eventually it'll be impossible to get 6 of them from one vendor. Afterall, they arn't making any more of them! So, looks like we only need one more person...

Here are the instructions for ordering for the 5 people that want in on the $275 shipped price from SBHcorp:
Hello Jeff,
Let each of the members fill in an order form.
Orders will be shipped to the billing address only.
Please e-mail us the names of the members that wish to order and we will confirm the order with the correct price and shipping.
Thank you and feel free to e-mail if you have any questions,
David
Please e-mail me your information (no credit cards, etc) only names so that I can forward to SBH so they can ensure we get the special pricing.
Then you can go to their website and fill out an order form.
To those who wanted to see the price go even lower, I am sorry I couldn't accomodate you at this time with a group purchase.
