All the forum members that I am aware post details of the two types of Auto transmissions. General motors or the ZF however i have been informed that all Japan sourced BMWs have a Japan transmission manufactured by JASCO or Japan Automatic Transmission Company which are manufactured in Japan. Can anyone through light on this. It is possible that they have a link with General Motors and may be based on there transmissions. I am curious as I have a 1996 323 which I believe has one as it was sourced from Japan.

It appears so. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=CB82&mospid=47443&btnr=24_0951&hg=24&fg=05

The transmission code ends in J, which is usually the manufacturer.

Z = ZF
R = GM
