I was thinking about painting my 15" 15 spoke stock wheels black. My car is painted boston green.
Did a quick photoshop to get an idea of what it might look like:

Dont bother, the 15s will look so small.
Black only looks good on larger rims.

Hideous. Black rims almost never look good. On Boston Green, go have those rims chromed, they look ok when chromed, a lot better than the hyper silver.

i was thinkin of doing something similar... I agree with a cpl of the first posts tho... it looks better with bigger rims, but if you don't plan on getting new rims... then do it... it looks better than stock imo... adds a lil flavor... and black wheels tend to look "cleaner" longer than lighter colored rims (because of brake dust n whatnot)... however, if not done "correctly" u could end up with chipped paint, fading, unevenness... etc... gluck with that and post pics if you do it...:cool
EDIT: im against chrome myself... i was surprised to see so many "no"s... but then when i thought about it not too many ppl have black rims on their E36s... well to each's own... just don't go wasting money away... if you DO plan on getting rims later on then just save for that...

agreed. I do plan on getting new wheels in the future, but I don't see that happening for quite some time considering I have no money and school is starting, which will put me into debt. Part of my reasoning was exactly what you said, black wheels look cleaner. In the picture I posted my wheels are squeaky clean because I had just washed the car. They'll look like that for a couple days and then they start turning black on their own with brake dust and other crap. I figured if I just painted them they would always look clean.
I will certainly not get chrome wheels, I think chrome looks terrible on bmws. And plus, Im sort of going for the darkish sleeper look with my car...I've got smoked corners, blacked out kidney grill, blacked tails and side indicators...With black wheels there wouldn't really be any metallic color on my car.
Thanks for the input guys, definatley got a resounding no, but I haven't made up my mind yet.

Hey man it's your car, do it. I have the same wheels on my vert, and was thinking the same thing. Maybe if you paint just the middle part? Not the lip.
Bottom line, it's your car. Who cares what we think!

NO is my vote. But it's your ride. I think they just look like they need cleaned badly.

no. Black rims look lik winters unless they are 18s and stick way out. If you want you car to look better lower it with some sport springs.

here's the thing... i don't think it looks good, and as said before, it's tough to make black wheels look good on many cars... occasionally it comes out well but it's difficult
first you have to decide gloss or flat... gloss may look glossier than your car and flat will look brake-dust-dirty... gloss might be better though in this instance...
second since these rims are such a full face and dont expose much of your rotor/brakes, you're going to look like a spare tire rather than a performance wheel...
third leaving the lip the silver color will separate the rim from the tire, thus making it more like an aftermarket wheel and not your spare
i think if you plan on getting other ones later, go ahead and do it to your bottlecaps.. bottlecaps are useless for resale purposes, so have fun with them, experiment... $15 in paint on wheels you'll not use in 6 months is far better than $1500 in wheels/tires then hating them..

If you leave a silver lip, it'll be painfully obvious that they're only 15s. The black doesn't look that bad IMO, but I like the silver better.

Black rims without a Silver/Polished Lip do not look good, unless they are steelies, which are the little 13-14" steel rims that hondas come with after you pop the hubcap off. Those spraypainted black look better than the hubcaps, but the 15" BMW stock rims dont look good sprayed black, even with a silver lip.
The 17's or 18' inch rims will look good in black IF the lip is silver/polished. It's a must in my opinion. Even for gunmetal or hyperblack which is sorta like gunmetal, the lip needs to be silver or else its not quite right.
But! Black rims with the polished lip are some of the sickest out there, in the right size.
