This is untrue. The law was not passed.

good, cause that sucks for the people who are actually capable of doing both at the same time!

capability of doing both was never the issue. however, with half your attention on the phone and half on your driving, both tasks end up getting done half-assed.

Who can confirm this?

I second Boomerbimmer. There is no such law in Maryland as of yet.

I wish it was a law, but I think we would have heard more about this. Imagine the number of people who would pulled over...women in SUVs as far as the eye can see.

I also saw a new law that is been introduced and has passed the Maryland house of representatives and is going to the state senate. The law is if you are in the left lane (presumably on the highway) and you are going to be passed by another car, you must yield and move over regardless if you are already doing the speed limit. If not you will be fined. Finally, a good common sense law. Hopefully it will be passed.

I heard about that one. Think about this. If a cop gave a ticket for this, would he also pull over the speeder? It seems like he'd have to choose btwn the two.

I think this is a reaction to the speed-limits, which are set much too low in most places. 95 could easily have an 80mph limit in many places. These people who purposely ride 55 in the left lane are practicing some geek version of vigilantly justice and causing a road hazard.

I hate those idiots who do 55 in the left lane, but a lot of times they can't get over with people passing on the right. That should be in the law too - no passing on the right, and peopl have to move over to allow other cars to pass on the left.

It's funny that all of the cops that I know (father-in-law is retired from BCPD - know a lot of them) all drive fast so that they don't hold up traffic.

I was discussing this exact issue with my partner the other day at the office. As of yet, it hasn't become a law pre-se, however, it's well on its way there.

There's more of risk to those people who can't do both at the same time, to those who can do it. Just because three out of ten people can talk and drive, doesn't mean the other seven can. Why risk lives?

I'll personally defend people who bring this suit to the courts of law.

I hope that law does pass. People on cell phones are usually driving like crap. In 2 lanes, cutting people off, totally unaware of what's going on. I dont think that many people are getting killed from it, but i am sure alot of minor accidents occur beacuse of this and it's pretty annoying also. Sorry Bav///man :)

Keda-- you are definetly right about women in SUVs. IMO alot of women are very poor drivers.

I also agree about the left lane thing.
