Ok, so my air stopped working in the sweltering Memphis heat (100 today, just like yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that). I've searched this common problem but was unable to find the answer to my question: If it is the frequently-misdiagnosed-capacitor-culprit and not the blower motor gone South, would I have blown a fuse?

When I noticed there was NO air whatsoever coming out, the first place I looked with the fuse box. Nothing blown. My lights on the climate control unit are on, the compressor kicks in, but no air blowing. It's going in the shop on Monday and I just want to be sure that if they tell me it's the blower motor, that it really is the blower motor and not some $5 capacitor that I could fix myself,,,,,although I really don't relish working on the unit in an un-air conditioned garage!

Thanks in advance.

Why don't you fix the cheap resistor yourself first? It's cheap, easy and probably your problem.

Does the fan work at all with a/c on and off? If you can get it to work without the a/c, might be an electrical problem somewhere. If it only works on high, you need a new resistor pack.

Also, make sure your a/c system is up to pressure.

Nope, the fan doesn't blow at all on any setting. The system was recently (1 month ago) inspected and charged.

Check fuses 1 by 1. They are hard to see sometimes.

Just bought 320i..have the exact same problem.. all lights on a/c are on (manual a/c) but fan not blowing any air..checked the fuses 1 by 1.. no blown fuses.. guess it has to be a resistor pack or blower motor..

I assume: No air = blower motor.

Air at random strengths = resistor
