Hi I'm new here, and thought this to be the best place to get info. I'm looking at a 1995 525i 5spd. Can anyone tell me what if any problems that these cars were known for, so I can check them out before I buy the car. Thanks in advance BOB

- thrust arms (replace those w/ 750il bushings)
- plastic impellar water pump & housing (replace w/ aluminum)

those are just a few things off the top of my head.

this is a good list: http://www.bmwe34.net/e34main/trouble/what_will_break.htm

all in all, it's a very good car. i have a '95 525i as well.

Shragon covered the big stuff... www.bmwe34.net will give you the rest.

I don't know if they talk about the upper radiator hose, where it goes into the radiator-- That spot on the radiator can crack over time and leak antifreeze. This happened to a friend of mine with a 535i, and I've been cautioned about it if I ever track mine :)

The lifters are a big noisy in mine as well, this is a common issue, don't think the motor is bad if you hear a little "ticking" once in a while. The part number on the lifters has been changes 4 times since the original release, to address this issue. Most recent update was towards the end of last year.

If the airflow from the climate control doesn't seem to be too good, swap out the microfilter, it's not a problem with the fan.

Possible rust spots on the body can pop up at the bottom of the front doors under the trim panel, and where the rear quarter-panel meets the bumper cover.

Hope this helps a bit...they're a damn reliable car, and the only real BIG issue is the water pump. Everything else for the most part is regular maintenance.

Good luck with your search, and welcome to the board!!

PS-- Where in NY? I grew up betwixt Buffalo and Rochester--

Thanks for all the input. I lost that one in auction too much for the car, but there will be others. I live just south of Albany. Thanks again. BOB
