I've heard that BMW's designed for the European market are not the same as the ones designed for the American market (ie suspension tuning). Is this true??

Sometimes manufacturers do this with their cars. Not sure about BMW.

It true of some years/models. Ie: The E36 M3 has 240 hp and a softer suspension in U.S., but far more (I think like 280 or 300 hp) in Europe with stiffer suspension. Euro spec cars get the first aid kit that we don't. I'm sure there are other differences too.

Thanks for your inputs. I guess the reason I was asking is because I'll be in Germany in a few weeks, and was thinking of buying a BMW over there if they're better. I'm not sure how to import one into the US though.

I know some people buy the Euro first aid kits for E39 when they are there and sell here on Ebay. Also, soe of the tools in the tool kit aren't included on the US models but are in Euro. 99 and newer E39 don't get the warning triangle and 2 other pieces missing from tool kit.

UTex328IS - don't bother it is a lot more trouble than it is worth IMO. Importing is a pain in the ass. We have a 84 M635csi which was a bitch to get in I was told:) It was easier back then too;)

'95 M3: US 240hp/Euro 286hp
'96-'99 M3: US 240hp/Euro 321hp

the euro M3 also got a 6 speed and an SMG option. better headlights. better brake rotors too.

don't bother trying to import a euro car. way too much trouble.
