From my understanding there is no such thing (it didn't carry over from the 325). Now when I launch hard I turn off the ASC and I can feel that only one tire is spinning. When it is raining and I get on it harder than usual (and the tires start to spin) with the ASC on, It feels like it is distruibuting the power between both wheels? I even get a little sidways. I can't complain about how well the traction control system works (I never completely lose power, like a sudden halt).
So I am reading through my FSM and see that the LSD only kicks in when needed.
Sounds to me like it only kicks in when the ASC is on.
Am I crazy? Or does my car have an LSD only when the ASC is on? Well you know it always has an LSD, but only locks when the ASC is on

This is asked a lot. Just look at the diff and see if it has a LSD gearing and part number indicated on it. Likely you DO NOT have a LSD.

There is a BIG difference between ASC+T and a LSD. Everything you just described is ASC+T.

I guess that it's just a damn good open differential then. How does it know which wheel is slipping? And to send power to the wheel that hooks up?

by looking at the diff. Do you mean the cover?
Or am i getting in there deep and looking at the gears?

I don't know about the e36 ASC+T, but some traction control systems for open differentialed cars lightly apply the brakes to the wheel that is slipping, forcing torque to the wheel with traction.

It will be stamped on the casing (ouside).
