if you have trouble finding an "elevator bolt" (like i did), the alternative part to get is a coarse-threaded 2" hex bolt

I just made one, but I can't use it. My car won't start unless the clutch is pressed way in :-(
Does anyone know if that (how far the clutch has to be pressed before the car will start) can be adjusted?

maybe your clutch already had good placement.

I don't think you can get the right thread at home depot....they don't have a good selection of metric - if any. Go to your local hardware store and save yourself a trip.

Wow Joe, if that thing doesn't stop that clutch I don't know what will ;-)
Well, I went back to the store and picked up a 1 1/2" elevator bolt, and that size is perfect for my car. All the way out and the clutch won't go in enough to start the car. Screw it in a bit and the car starts fine -- I added a couple addition turn for good measure.
It may not take out as much slop as 2" bolt, but it removed about an inch of dead travel. Feels nice.

This is one of my favorite upgrades... AND it was cheap as hell to do :D
I've got an extra one lying around if anybody is interested in one, but is too lazy to search their hardware store for all the necessary parts.
Just PM me :stickoutt

Here is a great thread with pictures on clutch stops including DIY ones.

I did it and my gear shifts are noticeably smoother and more consistant. It is a great mod! I did disengage the cutoff switch for clutch travel so my car would start (actually, I bypassed the wiring to fool the switch into thinking that it is always engaged).
My only worry was possible excess clutch wear....but if you adjust the travel while on a slight incline you are good if you can push the clutch while in gear and the car can roll backwards).

Hey rome5982, does that sub rattle the seats at all. That's a good idea.

No the seats are fine. The sub is not attached to the seats. It is in its own reinforced 1.3 cubic foot sub enclosure which is screwed into the trunk floor. Now the trunk rattles when this thing is jumping..........but I don't hear it in the cabin. I think that if i used dynamat in the trunk then even these rattles would go away.
