I've been told that the glove leather used on BMW M Cars is different than the leather most cleaners and conditioners were made for. I've read that Spinneybeck products are the best for this type of leather and that Lexol is very bad for this type.

Is this true? What about Zymol Treat or Connelly Hide Food?
Are there any other products that are made specifically for Nappa Leather?

Perhaps the group can shed some light on this.

Thanks,

You are correct. There is a post on the Z3 forum over at www.bimmerfest.com by Jon Maddox of Leather Z. He does not reccommend the use of Lexol on NAPPA leather, (which is what is in our MCoupes). Lexol will not allow the leather to breate and will make it hard and brittle. He recommends Connelly Hide Food and Spinneybeck treatment maybe twice a year. I am making the switch also. Keep in mind that Connelly Hide Food will go bad. Maybe we can keep it refridgerated?

I am also going to try and find out if a conditioner meant for full grain leather can be used, such as the Coach Leather conditioner.

I would recommend Pinnacle Cleaner and Conditioner. I don't know how the Nappa differs though.

I read that Connelly Hides have entered into "receivership", the British version of chapter 11. So, it looks like there may not be any more Connelly Hide food available. It would be good to know if Coach leather cleaner and conditioner would work as well.

Or maybe I just go ahead and order the Spinneybeck...

Yesterday, while I was at the BMW dealer, I noticed that they had Connely Hide Food there so I decided to give it a whirl.

I am amazed. The leather just drank it up! No wierd, artificial sheen. Just a beautiful, soft feeling leather. I thought about putting it in the refridgerator, but the product clearly states that it should be stored at room temperature.

Very interesting info. I'm guessing because the leather is clear coated?

I wonder how well Leatherique Rejuvenator Oil will work on nappa leather... or the Zaino leather cleaner.
