:helpi was out last night picking my little sister up from the airport and she's in love with my car, so as soon as she got in the car she was like "let's hit it". so i started out slow up to the red light, then as soon as it turned green i punched it- hooked up good no burning, and in 1st gear i revved it to about 7100-7200 and hit second, but as it hit second the rpm dropped to like 4500-5000, and every gear after that it did the same thing. it felt like as the rpm were dropping it was very sluggish almost like the tires werent gripping, but they were-thats the only way i could explain it-but as soon as the rpm caught up it had its power again. i dont remember the car ever doing this before, then again i dont drive like this hardly ever( i've never even gone over 95 in the car). anyways if anyone can help it would be much appreciated. im thinkin something to do with the clutch.:help

maybe his clutch may be slipping or he's not getting off the clutch fast enough...

test it out... http://www.carspace.com/guides/How-to-Test-for-a-Slipping-Clutch

wonder if the CDV is removed?

could be the CDV... but if it is starting to slip... it might be too late and that might not fix the problem

yeah, if he has the CDV then that would make it seem like his clutch is slipping if he didn't get off the clutch fast enough while adding gas. He should do the test above and let us know...

Sounds like you may have burned your clutch up.

i thought 95s didnt have a cdv...i think the clutch is gone, cuz it was not like i was holding it in too long-i know what that sounds like, it was definitely out, so that makes me think it is burned up, thanks for the help guys, i will go price a new one....suggestions are also helpful here, i know the different options i can buy, but if i can hear some first hand opinions that would be great :)

did you try 5th gear going 25 mph to see if your clutch was slipping?

If you put your car in 5th at a low speed and give it some gas, engine reving up means the clutch is slipping.

Mine does that also when i go into second some times. It feels sometimes like the asc kicks on and kills a bit of power till the tires can catch

Does your car have traction control? Not sure if 95's had it but that is what happens in my car when I shift from 1st to 2nd quickly with it on. The car brakes until there is traction and then the rpms rise again. Feels terrible in the car.

95's dont have traction control or cdv. My guess is your clutch as well. Does your clutch pedal catch low off the floor? Usually a good indicator would be a low clutch engagement point. If indeed it is your clutch I voe uuc 8.5 ltw flywheel and M5 clutch combo. Its awesome. By the way, I wouldnt rev past 7k anymore even if your chipped, no need especially if your not racing. I usually shift at the normal 6500k even thought I can rev to 7200. Just my 2 cents.

If the car bogs or the car's speed stays constant with the rpm then your clutch is not slipping.

Rpms going up but not speed or speedometer needle = slipping clutch.

ok so on the way home i tried this 5th gear test...i was doing about 25 and i put it in 5th and slowly gave it some gas and the car bogged down a lot to like 20-18 and then went all the way up to 40. so i tried it again and the same result. i did this like 4-5 times each with the same result. so i decided to try from a stop and gunning it to see if the RPM would drop again, this time they dropped but it felt like i still had power, they dropped to 5k and then went straight back up to 7k, then i shift to 3rd and it drops to 4300-4500 and no power for a little bit like the first time. i have no idea whats goin on

the clutch seems to be fine... what's the last time you had a tune-up? Get a tool a read your ecu codes - ignition coils, injectors, sparkplugs, etc... how is your fuel filter... Notice how I'm referencing power turn ignition items....

Seems like 5th would be too high for that speed.
Wouldn't it buck and shudder?

that's the purpose; if it doesnt buck and shudder then your clutch is slipping.

Here's a simple clutch test,

Put on your e-brake, and try to drive it, if the car barely moves then your clutch is out. If your car moves almost like it does without the e-brake, or shuts off, then your clutch is fine
