This is a nice little DIY if you have an ugly, flaked valve cover like mine :)

After pics mounted:

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa230/jwang1980/DSCN1987.jpg

Stuff used:

Aircraft remover (2 canisters) this stuff eats paint like no other

400 grit sandpaper for roughing up the surface so primer sticks to it

600 grit sandpaper to fine sand the primer if you see imperfections

1200 degree flat black paint (duplicolor)

primer

Let me know whatcha think?

I just got mine sandblasted and powdercoated a few weeks ago. Only $53 and turned out great in gloss black (close match to body). I will post pics soon.

Very necessary also. I can't stand when they start looking like that.

How did you dispose of the stripped paint?
I've used the stripper before, but not on such a large surface.
I used newspaper to wipe off and tossed it, brushed with wire, then flushed surface with water.

i used that aircraft remover also, thats some tough shit! get it on your hand and its like instant burning! i got the no drip spray. its like a shaving cream consistancy, works well.

I took the opportunity to change the valve cover gasket, the thought of putting whatever is floating around back in didn't really appeal to me, small price to pay for a peace of mind.

The powdercoated and colormatched to the euro motor looks SWEET!

The aircraft remover is so strong you just wipe off the old paint with a rag or a newspaper.

Also I put 56k warning just in case someone was ACTUALLY still on 56k. They are somewhat hi-res too so I didn't wanna offend, just a common courtesy

You just tossed it in the trash or did you treat it like hazardous waste and take to a disposal site?

Powdercoating ftw!

Prly cost the same amount as your supplies and time.

Props though

I used aircraft remover on my car's valve cover. Took 2 tries to get all the paint off... but didnt take off the primer like it said it would. I'm just gonna repaint it instead of polishing.
