View Full Version : Conforti install questions
Okay so I'm installing the 3.5" intake and HFM on my car right now and have a few questions...
1) This is the heat/temp sensor right? Where do I put it? I don't see a hole for it in the intake anywhere. the intake that was on my car (some ebay crap) had a hole in the tubing right behind the filter where this sensor bolted into. can I just bolt it to the heat shield someplace near the filter?

2)the larger HFM is resting on the charcoal canister. How to remedy this? I'm gonna try to see if there is a way to re-locate it but I'm not sure.

I didn't get any instructions and I'm just kind of wingin' it. Thanks guys.

Do you have a heatshield? I just drilled a hole into the side of the heatshield, then sealed the temp sensor in there. I believe some of the conforti heatshields have a hole already cut in it for this..but some dont....mine didnt..lol. Should be fine that way

:D today is the day brother! 3.5" all the way through and software :devillook
Now I can't figure out how to get the damn cruise control cable off so I can put the heat shield in.

What this thing? **NWS**

Pull it, at least i am. That thermostat determines how much coolant can flow through the TB. As i live in SoCal, i dont need to worry about freezing temperatures as you may. So i am eliminating a great deal of plumbing from the engine bay.

If you want to hold off for a few days, im putting together a DIY on how to use the factory check valve (the unit that slides onto the charcoal canister bracket) to PROPERLY delete the charcoal canister without having all your fuel vapors released while parked. You ever wonder why people get crappy mileage when the pull this delete? Thats why.
Im also going to be routing the TB inlet from the main "coolant manifold" (large hose with smaller protruding hoses under the intake plenum) directly back into the engine block. This will bypass the throttle body and eliminate some clutter as well. I ordered some brass barb fittings from www.discounthydraulichose.com to make a nice clean modification.
Funny, how we both got Conforti intakes and black Samco boots at the same time. Both of mine came in today as well. :D
Yup, that thing! LoL. If all it does is control coolant flow to the throttle body, then I'll just ziptie it someplace in the engine bay and not worry about it. It gets well below freezing here, but my car is garaged and I'm sure whatever temp it detects where I'll put it (near bottom of heatshield) will be good enough to keep the throttle body not frozen.
As far as the charcoal canister I just took off both mounting bolts and I'm gonna mount the top hole on the bottom mounting hole. If that makes sense, moving it down like an inch or two. should be good.
still can't figure out the damn cruise control cable though.

Yea, since your in Nebraska, i wouldn't change the coolant routing on your car. Having that TB plate freezing open while driving would be FTL.
There should be a strap attached to the outside of the heat shield to hook the thermostat to, at least mine has it. As for the CC, i haven't tried it yet, but does that cable detach from the side opposite of the CC unit? Just a thought.
Personally, i like to keep things clean, so im pulling the canister. Ill be routing the blue vent line into the top of that check valve, then the bottom line to the port on the TB to recycle the gases into the system. See that electrical connection to the check valve? That ensures the valve stays closed when its not needed, as to not let the gas evaporate.
Don't like it? Tell it to Chuck Noris...and he'll kill you!
I'm not sure about the CC either, I'm gonna go play with it some more. I might end up taking it off from the throttle body and then just run it that way and re-fasten it.
Okay, why the hell wont my car start http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=799645
Well, the cruise control was very simple. I feel like an idiot. Just pull up the weatherstripping and there is actually a slot there. I thought it was just a whole drilled. :embarrasm
As for the air temp, I had to drill a hole in the side of the heat shield and the sensor sits right behind the filter. I used silicone to seal it off.
