I just changed my front brake pads and installed the bimmerworld brake backing plates this weekend. I bedded in the pads correctly and had no issues. After I let the brakes cool I went for another drive and after a few minutes of driving I started to notice a clicking type noise at low speeds when I was OFF the brake, whenever I depress the brake pedal the noise goes away, and I cannot hear it at speed (above probably 20mph).

I jacked the car up and spun my wheels and could not re-produce the noise. I was too lazy to take them back off last night and now I'm at work.

I believe the problem could be related to the fact that one of the retaining clips that holds the inner pad to the piston fell off while trying to install the pads. The noise is only coming from that side of the car. Is that likely my problem?

I've had many cars that don't even have that retaining clip so it doesn't seem necessary, but could it really cause this noise?

Edit: I forgot to mention that I drove it to work this morning and the noise was not there until I got close to work, so after about 10 minutes of highway driving. There were no noises on the way to the highway.

I have the bimmerworld plates, but haven't used em yet.

You'd have to knock the "claw" part off of the caliper side pad to use the plates, right? If so, you'd lose anti-rattle on that pad, so I'd expect a little more noise. That said, why are you using them on the street if you're worried about noise?

I'll be putting them on my car for Thunderhill on the 17th and can confirm or deny extra rattle then ;)

Yes, I broke the little clip in the back.

I'm not worried about noise in that sense. I know they are loud pads, this is my 2nd set. I don't care about squeal, dusting, etc, but this is a repetive click click click at low speeds. It sounds like something is wrong with my car, I just wanted to confirm it was not.
