I used a Stanley adjustable wrench that I bought at Walmart for like $3. It worked perfectly!

It was either the 6" or the 8"

Get a 32mm wrench from Sears and a long thin flathead.

3 minutes of de-installation

But, could be many years of headaches from here forward so enjoy!

I remember trying to take my fan off before with a regular open end. It was a PIA, I would just get the tool from pelican. Did you try european automotive?

a 32mm wrench is so much longer than the reach required to get past the fan. It is as easy as taking off a lug nut. Paying for a special tool is pretty silly.:nono

EDIT: plus you get to pay for a tool that is completely worthless. Hmm, yes, go that route.

Do you guys have any cyclist shops up there? They use those thin wrenches to work on their cannondales and crap. A local shop sold me one for $10.

Ah doing this job is a PITA but once you get that nut off your golden. I ended up taking my water pump out with the fan on it just cause my fan was seized up and would not come off.

Mine would not budge, even with the tool, which i broke. Its painfully obvious now it was overtorqued at some point, but nevertheless, the tool may be necessary.

I picked up a 32mm bike wrench this weekend, and the guy who sold it to ma actually asked whether I was using it for a bike or a BMW. Apparently, they've sold a few for fan nuts lately. Apparently there's a lot of us replacing our cooling systems.:)

Just did my water pump replacemnet. I used a craftsman 32mm wrench and a long screwdriver to hold the fan. Just remember, the fan nut is reverse thread....so Righty Loosey!!!!! If you did not know that,...then you will be there forever!

Leave the belt on and tight.
Take the wrench 1¼" and hit it with hammer.
Try that a few times.
If that doesn't work, resort to lodging a screwdriver or allen and vise grips as cheater between two of the fan pulley bolts after backing them out a thread or two and scissor the nut off with the wrench.
You can do it the way I do when I have trouble and wedge the driver or allen with cheater against something and hammer the wrench rather than bare hands.
If no hammer, use mechanics or gardening or m-cycle gloves for protection.
Just remember to try using the belt for resistance tension first.
Makes life easier.

Give it a shot first before spending any $. Mine wasn't tight at all and came right off w/o any special tools.
