I have the stock conti sport garabage on my car, I have to say im impressed with their wear (33k on them so far) and the only reason I need to replace the fronts is i have messed up camber that ate the inner part of the tire..
I hate the way they grip and they give no warning before they give out.. just garbage tires
on my e36, I ran Dunlop SP Sport 8000's and those tires had amazing grip... but lasted 10k MAX...
So I guess Im looking for a tire with similar perofrmance to the SP 8000's but with better wear.. Any ideas?
I'd like to spend < 150 per tire

<$150 is a tall order especially if you want a good tire. i have Michelin Pilot Sports on my 04 330ci and i love them - they are at 30k right now and it looks like ill be able to get another 2-3K before i have to replace. amazing grip, and really predictable loss of traction. i think you can pick them up for like $180 a tire.

Hmm, how about Dunlop SP Sport Maxx's? I can get those for 120 front and 140 rear on my car. installed and balanced ( I think that's included)
good to have your family in the business ;)

i dont have any personal experience with the dunlops, but i think they are OE on the new 535. you might also want to check out the Goodyear Eagle GS-D3, they have nice performance and ride and are a little less than the Pilots. Dont know what part of SoCal you are from but check out discount tire if there is one near you, i always get my tires from them and they usually hook up a good discount + a really good road warranty and free rotations.

go with bridgstone potenza pole position. Have them on my 325 and they drive incredible, even in the wet. i have 225 45r17 and they ran me 130 a tire on tire rack

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s are good, especially in the rain, they wear pretty well, won a C&D tire test a few years ago and cost around $150. Dunlop Sport Maxx looks pretty good from Tire Rack Survey Results for Max Perf Summer tires

My question is related to the original post about all season tires for the E46, so I thought I would join in. My 2000 323Ci convertible has the original 16X7 wheels and Michelin MXV4 205/55-16 tires. At 48K miles they are nearly worn out. When it comes time I am thinking to go to 225/50-16, which is a listed optional tire in the BMW owners manual. I also want to get a higher performance all season tire than the boring MXV4, assuming they ever wear out. I have had superb experience with the Pirelli Pzero Nero M+S on my 528i (E39), but now I am also interested in the Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S. I recently fitted a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S to my Subaru; a great tire but so expensive. I read the recommendations for Bridgestone and Goodyear, but haven't looked into the size availability yet. Does anyone have experience with the Pilot Exalto on an E46?
