I need four 245/45/17. These tires are the best I've driven on. They blow away anything short of rain tires on the street. In dry conditions they have fantastic grip, with less road noise than Yokohama and anout the same amount of noise as the Pilots.

I don't need tires but if the price is right, I'm in. What's the shelf life of tires if any and how do I store them properly or can I just throw them in a corner and forget about them?
I know when it's on a car you can get flat spots but non-mounted tires should not be a problem right?

Let me re-phrase that, what is the widest size tire I can run on 7.5 without any worries, IF 235 is pushing it, then 225 is my safest/highest #? I currently have 235 on 16" stock 5 spoke rims, but I don't know how wide the rim is.

Ok, the issue isn't how wide of a tire you can fit on the rim, but rather how wide of a tire you can fit in your fender wells without rubbing. On a 318, I'd recommend not going too wide. You're really not going to see much of a performance gain (ie better turn in and such) without better suspension and without enough HP, all the wider tires will do is increase your rolling resistance. I've personally run a 245/40 on the stock 17x7.5 on a e36M3. Whether or not it'll fit on your car is a different story.
PS what's price on:
245/40 17's

Okay Here is the deal, Eric is checking with another distributor for better prices, since Tire Rack sells direct from Bridgestone/Firestone, they are able to sell these things at a relatively lower price, The orignal supplier we had jacked the prices up once he found out we had 60 people interested. Eric is checking with a different supplier who can accomidate an order this large, and I will have some prices tommrorow or Thursday. I even called Tire Rack to see if they would be interested in this group buy and stated they were not equipped to handle a group buy at this time. I am doing all I can, and I appreciate everyone's patience, as I have devoted a great deal of time to this to make sure everyone gets a good deal. Thank you.

The best you are going to get is possibly 10-15% off the tirerack price. To get better prices, you can't go through a distributor. You need to find a wholesaler (e.g., person that sells to tirerack) that is willing to discount the tires. Good luck, I've searched.

a group buy from the tire rack isn't that hard - it's just the double shipping that you've gotta deal with.
heck I can do that too, but I'm just lazy. ;)

I can't see how any discount from a GP would not be eroded to the point making the whole exercize futile.
So is this gp on S03? T1s? or if there is one since there is no supplier.

Apparently this S03 Group Purchase has gone flat...
I'll need to lock it for now but PM me if you need it re-opened.
