So when it comes time to part ways with the E36, I will most likely be in the market for another BMW. I would like to upgrade to a post-2000 model. I really like the 330 ZHP and any of the new 5 series. Hell I even love the X5. An AWD SUV would be great in Cleveland. I would like to to be non-M because a 19 year old male in a semi-shitty part of town = ridiculous insurance costs. The only real requirements is under 60,000 miles, and under $32,000.

How about an E90?

How about an E90?

I would definitely consider one. Never really looked into any except the 335 which is definitely out of my price range. What do the E90s have to offer?

if you live in a shitty part of town and cannot buy the car you want get a beater and a motorcycle to satisfy your need for speed. pocket the extra 10-12k and invest it in something for your future.

Coolest Non-M = 2003 540i/6.

I would say my favorite non M is that new B7.

However, In your shoes, I'd get a E90. I think they have potential to be great. Or wait a few years for a 1 series.

What about a 8 Series. Those are overlook alot of time. It is something different.

For some strange reason, I'm biased towards the E46 328i. :shifty

They're maintenance intensive, the 850 being the worst of them. Also it's pretty hard to find a 6 speed 840. I would def go for a 330i ZHP if I were in your shoes.

335 or 135. However, at the sametime, living in a shitty part of town means someone will do something nasty to your car. Thus, I'd probably sell the car and then get myself to a better part of the city, buy a beater and then save up for another bimmer.

I think I might have mis-stated the part about the part of town I live in. It's not a shitty place to live by any means, but it is worse off than the surrounding cities. It's your typical suburban neighborhood. The only problem is the demographics are changing and some of the people from the ghettos 20 minutes away are moving up the hill to where most of the nice developments are and whatnot. I'm not saying I am racist; it doesnt bother me at all. But insurance companies look at it as a liability and thus my insurance rates in my city are higher than the city 10 minutes down the road. That's all. My car wont get broken into or anything.

As for the car, it seems as though the 540i/6 and 330ZHP are the front-runners. My only issue is finding a nice 330ZHP around here. Aren't they somewhat difficult to find? I don't mind traveling a bit. Just curious

For shits and giggles I got an insurance quote for a 2000 M Coupe and Geico quoted me within $50/semester of a base C5 vette, and those are very cheap on insurance. It was well over $600/semester less than my current E36M. Can anyone tell me why this is? :help

If that's the case I might spring for one of those and get a beater/plow for the company in winter.

You guys = n00bz

best non M = z8 (and don't say ''but the s62...'' etc)

other contenders are the 335, 550, 650, e30 318is, e30 325i

i think he's looking for something practical...

if i were in your shoes, i'd be looking at e46 330zhp, 330ci, z4 and coupe, z3 3.0 and coupe, and maybe e92s if you can find any cheap enough, e90 if you like that style, personally i like the e46 better. and i would check out insurance on the m versions of the z's

who you calling a noob - read the post - his requirements are under 60,000 miles and under $32,000 - let me know when you find a Z8 for that price smart guy

You already said you like the 330 ZHP, so I'd just go with that. Or a really clean, low-low mileage 330ci.

Yeah I think a 330ZHP would be cool. Would it be smart to wait a little while for the 335's to come down in price and pick one of those up? I'm not in a huge rush to get rid of the M, but I would like to get out of it within the next year.

So why is insurance on Z3M so cheap? Is it cuz its a hatch? Very strange.

That's because they don't exist (at least in the US, unless someone converted it).

They were only sold in Europe. BMW was thinking that the same customer who bought the 7er was roughly the same as those who bought the 8er, and since the 7 didn't come in manual, the 8 didn't need it either.

Nice :) I would say the custom cars like 24 valve E30 M3/Ti's, built up tourings and the Z3 coupe are high up there on my list. I also really like the E46 330i ZHP...probably my fav. non-M 3-series to this date.

my post was rather sarcastic and carefree in nature, but obviously it didn't ring a bell.
