There is no extra weight added to them but they are hefty. Normal aluminum is lightweight. This alloy hefts like steel. I'll leave a message for Leif in the USA to weigh one of them tomorrow. But its my experience that these will definitely improve on a notchy feel and decrease effort.

We weighed the shift knobs and they are 8.8 ounces each, about .55 pounds each.

For comparison, a similat RK2 knob from UUC weighs 7.1 ounces.

yes, what I always do with this type is place it on the shifter where I want it, and use a drill to dimple in the shift lever where the holes are and then the alan bolts have a place to secure and stay to.

Hmmm, could it be that their is a difference between an oem sticker and an oem insert? I tried to install an oem insert which is much thicker and a tiny bit wider than the provided DDM sticker. I bought it from Modbargains.com, it fits all of UUC's shifters but it is said to be genuine BMW. Here is the link:

I have two concerns. One, just think that the chrome will look better. Second, the trim piece is a different metal and may not match if we try to force it black. I seriously encourage people to try the chrome trim option.

Hi guys,

I have returned from China. When I got back I found that Leif had not had time to drop off the shiftknobs at the plating company. I'm going to go up there this afternoon and drop off several dozen to make sure there are plenty of them available.

I'm very sorry for the delays. I'll come back and make a confirming post on the black ones as soon as tomorrow when I have an estimated ready date for them.

As others have mentioned, the quality is top notch on these so I think everyone will be happy with the product. And of course, the price is terrific.

Again, I apologize. I've had a few immigration things to deal with for my wife. I've been getting the shop moved inside of our building a second time to get more space again and hiring and training new people to grow.

I realized that these shift knobs are heavy or atleast some have said over 8 oz.. but are they shorter in lenght that the stock 540i shift knobs as well and if so by how much? Them that have got them does it make the shift alot shorter throw etc..????

If those others of you called in and talked to Leif and verified, you are probably all set. If you did not, please do so. PS" Shift knobs are 3 inches in length. I don't have a 5 Series, so I can't help you on the effect on the shortness of the throw. The extra weight will make it easier, that's all I can say in certainty.

We'd love updates from buyers on the effect though.

try putting a little bit of loctite on the screws that hold in the shift knob.
You could always buy another set of black ones and sell the other set to one of your buddies :P, im sure you could convince them you paid some good money for those. Just say youre giving them a great deal selling it for like $30 bucks.:paranoid: theyll never know......................:devillook

Got my black set. Very nice knob and ebrake handle, smooth and pretty.

Though, the stickers? Wth is up with them? Poor quality stick, they don't hold at all, I had to custom spray some 3m adhesive to the shift knob one and it works.

BUT, the ebrake handle one just is off in everyway, I figure only super glue will work, so I decided to just run without that one.

The price is awesome though.

My thoughts, next batch get a stronger adhesive for the DDM shift/ebrake stickers.

I talked to the supplier last night when this came up.

First they apologized about this and said they would try another formulation on them. As you can imagine, the stickers are subbed out by the milling company. The supplier makes aluminum, not stickers. Their offer to change the formulation was passed on from their supplier.

It doesn't help us much right this minute, so I'll look at the problem and see if I can find a workable solution for people.

A couple of things come to mind about the black knobs. We had these hard anodized here, just before shipment. I wonder if there might be some plating residue on them? I will talk to the plater and see if they have a recommendation on giving them a little extra cleaning.

Anyway, I'm glad you like the knobs, I'll try to find some answers and we have extra stickers if anyone needs one.

Also, the ebrake sticker fit fine on the first sample, I have to go have a look at that puppy again.

Just make sure its free from Dirt and grease, so the sticker will sit well.

I talked to the plating company yesterday. They said to use rubbing alcohol but to take care to not get it outside of the sticker area as it can leave a residue you have to rinse off all day with water. Dip a cotton cloth and wipe.

If this doesn't work, I'll do something crazy to make you happy.
