My EVO engine and 6 speed are in and running but there is a hesitation/misfire around 4000-4500 rpm. Does anyone have any ideas of what we should be looking at?
Thanks,
John

are you using 98 octane gas or close ? I would start there ...

93 octane gas in US is same as euro 98 octane gas, I assume canada would be same as US and have ron/mon?

do these engines have the deal where the valve cover gasket drowns the coil in oil, causing a high load missfire like the us-spec engines?

I have this... :(
Have you put it on the diagnostic computer to see why? Do you think upgrading the software (superchip or something) would smooth it out?

My intake is a 3.5" Conforti CAI and the exhaust is stock euro all the way back. I had them put in new plugs and adjust the valves. Christian at CG said it is all within the factory parameters when hooked up to the diagnostic machine, he thinks that the MAF or another sensor is being lazy. Maybe the fact that it was stored for two years has something to do with it. I am picking it up tomorrow. I am supposed to put some miles on it and then take it back in a couple of weeks so they can check it out.

Are you around tomorrow? Maybe I should swing by North Delta to check out your euro project and you could come for a ride in mine.

Feel free to call me if you get back to Victoria in time. I should be there until the early evening.

I have a leaky valve cover seal and one of the plug pit is "filling" with oil. I think that's the issue that's why I didn't investigate further, just waiting for parts at the moment. ;)

I think we have found the problem. It is the control unit. There was an error on the diagnostic showing the controller has had the problem for 5800 hours! It must have had the problem when it was wrecked in the UK. So the guy I purchased the engine from is trying to get me a new one from the uk. It currently feels like it is running on four cylinders.
On a different note, the 6 speed and the 3:64 gears are perfect. The shifter seems to sit a little closer to the dash and feels a bit longer but the throws are shorter and crisper in first through fourth. On the highway cruising it is at 3000 rpm at 75 mph in 6th, before it was at 70 mph at 3000 rpm in 5th. A nice little overdrive 6th with better gear ratios for acceleration in the first 5.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to get back to you. My wife and I were celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary.
Anyways, I have a spare Siemens MSS50 DME here if you need it. Let me know if you're interested.

I have recently solved a problem that was very close to this. I also have a conforti intake, and found that the MAF is very picky about the positioning of the connector. The intake doesnt really allow you to position the MAF in the correct "Oclock". Vitolo brought this to my attention and he was absolutely right. The MAF should be in about the 2 Oclock position. Your filter will probably be hitting the heat shield quite a bit.

Off of Alex's site, look at the possitioning of the MAF.
