Guy I work with told me that his dads neighbor has one for sale. I told him that I dont think that one was ever made. So is there such thing as a M535i?

In the early 80s, yes. It was an E12. Flipwillis has one.

it's really a 535iS, a narrow grill 535 with M-tec bumps and sideskirts. Not sure of the suspension/brake upgrades, but it looks just like an narrow grill M5. with basketweaves. I think there is an Msport E28 M535i also http://members.cox.net/m535i/

No, but the 535iS is occasionally called (incorrectly) an M535i. Some people have a tendency to call manual 535i's 535iM, which threw me off the first couple of times I saw it.
If there's an E34 with an M535i badge, this falls onto the same can of worms as what a car that says M7 is all about - the "Sacrilege!" vs. "If-it's-made-of-M-parts-calling-it-an-M-is-ok" deal.

Thats interesting, what do you guys think it is? Ive been looking at these for a long time and ive never seen an E34 "M535i" or "535iS"
Ive never seen such a colour scheme before and those rims really do look genuine to me. Its a shame, I would buy it on all that alone, strip the "M" identification no-doubt strewn all over it and give it some real balls... if it wasnt so expensive.

Come on now...there was a South African e23 that came from the factory with the ///M drive train in it. You could probably get away with calling that one an M7 w/out too much debate :)

Another member and I found a 1990 525i with complete M-Sports kit and an interior I have never seen before in a scrap yard! Even the engine looked like it had upgrades and the front shocks looked like M EDC versions but we could not verify.
There have been one off models or cars made by BMW to individual order requests I am sure...

Sam Son :P Come to Australia and get it! I just want a drive of the beast.
Aquila BMW, what colour is that beast in your signature? Is it the same colour as that sexual Fiver on the front page of Bimmerforums? I've decided i've fallen in love with the colour, ive moved on from the red on Camaroguy's car!

It's called a 745i. You can't just change the name to a model that never existed to suit your preference.

Amazing how the some of the most popular colors for these cars are so ill-respected now. I'm looking at you, kashmir, oxford, and island!
You could buy a 535 in Europe will M bumpers, skirts, wheels, and sport seats...
I would consider it an M-Technic 535 though.

It had an M88 and I believe what he meant was 'that would be as close as it gets to an M7'...
With an M88 and a load of mtech parts, I would agree with him. E23 M7 even though BMW didn't call it that.

I know exactly what it was. I just disagree on the users right to change the name of the car. Obviously SA 745i's are extremely rare and collectible and most likely all will be kept in factory condition. I doubt any of us need to worry about how we would badge them if we found one.
P.S. It does hold the distinction of being the only 7er ever used in factory racing.

Well I don't think it really matters what anyone calls their car. And what is this talk about 'rights'...I bought it, I payed for it, I will call it whatever the hell I want to. Just sayin'.

I should have added the words "without ridicule". Obvioulsy you can do whatever you want to your own car, you just have to face the public wrath if you choose to post it on the internet.

You can call it whatever you want to, but that doesn't mean that's what the car is. Contrary to popular opinion, there is still some objectivity left in language. In other words, the buck stops with the manufacturer; they make the car, thus they reserve the right (yes, right) to call it what they want to, and that's becomes the commonly-accepted designation.
To use an extreme example, if anybody can call, say, an E36 318i a Euro M3, then what's the point of naming anything at all?

Yeah, and they made 209 of them. Hardly likely to see many of them still around.

Again, I didn't saying re-badging it...I said you could get away with "calling" it an M7...AND likely without much ridicule as it has the actual heart of an M car in it (the M88).
You are correct though, it was never called an M7 by the factory.

Well...I disagree.
BMW actually made a special valve cover for early SA 745i's that simply say "BMW" instead of "M POWER" apparently because they did not want to represent it as an M car in any way. They gave up on that though and just went back to the regular valve covers for reasons unknown to me. It's probably difficult to produce a part that only fits 200 cars. Maybe sales didn't meet their original expectations.

Yes, you could perpetuate the illusion that you have an actual M car for some time, most likely... And you're right; you likely wouldn't get much ridicule from those who don't know what they're looking at. But you would from those who do.
I'll be the first to jump on the "BMW's designations make no sense and are completely inconsistent" bandwagon (the recent 1-Series M Coupe designation drives me up a wall), but the cars are what they are... :)
