1989 Euro M5, with 65k miles going for 24k!

Anyone else think that this thing is just a wee bit over priced? I thought that these cars were only 20k, just pay for it now or later.

Well, a euro-spec version of arguably the most desirable M5, in phoenominal condition. It'd be worth it to the right buyer. But yeah, to the typical M5 buyer who wants to drive it hard on a regular basis, a less "cherry" and cheaper example would probably be a better choice.

Seems like a real nice car but you'd still have to get US plates on it.
That might be a hassle...$'s

I bid on a 92 at japan auctions last wednesday with only 41k km on her she was in as good condition as that one with half the mileage and all the books and service history included, she sold for 2.4 million jpy which is 19,500 USD that was just purchase price not including shipping, vat, Duty etc etc. but 41k km is only 25k miles roughly. I reckon she was sold to someone in canada so look out for her , black over silver with 25k miles

Plus, it's in dollars Canadien, right? So if you convert it to dollars U.S. it's, what, $1,746,80, right? :lol
(sorry, had to).

Actually, thanks to our wonderful president... the gap between American and Canadian currency has shortened, from 30% to about 10% now...
So in US dollars this car is more like 21,500.

It is kind of funny that the post was started in order to emphasize its expense but everyone just replies about how amazing the car is....

That thing has been on sale for at least a year... wonder if that price has anything to do with that:rolleyes
That's one of the nicest E34s I've ever seen. If I had the money to blow on it I would.

Hey, '89 is closing in on 20 years old. Those things are slowly leaving the realm of nice driving cars & entering the classic collectible zone. In the next few years these prices (on mint collectables) are going to start climbing (as opposed to mine, which is a "let's drive it forever bomber").

Im not sure. I have been tracking E28 M5 prices for about 10 years now and only since about 8 months ago has the average price begun to rise a bit. E34 M5 prices are more stable, but others are not so sure the market has stabilized.
I dont know about this price. I think it is a high price because the mileage is at sort of a problem point, 65k is where a lot of things start to break or fail and age makes this only more probable. The maxim with these cars is that they need to be regularly flogged, as they succumb to italian garage queen syndrome. The more high maintenance you make it, the more high maintenance it will be. The less you drive it, the more problems you will have (ie, this is why you never buy a low mileage ferrari). You drive it and dont baby it...youll have a better experience in terms of driving and maintenance. These cars thrive upon a steady diet of high rpms. Maintenance, in my experience, with this sort of driving has been lower than those with garage queens. I paid a premium, $19.2 for 131k miles, for my AW because I knew the owner well, the car was driven on a constant basis, it was given all the best treatment, regular trips to 7,000rpms etc etc. Still one of the strongest 3.6s I have ever had the chance to pilot. Being 7% off of std compression and a variance of 5% for the mileage is perfect.

Personally, I think it has as much to do with the fact that it is in Canada. Those cars aren't very practical for a lot of Canada, and it is very expensive/difficult to federalize them for the US. Can be done on the cheap, but isn't THAT cheap and somewhat complicated. If that car was sitting in the US with federalization complete, it wouldn't still be for sale...
