This is not a kill story by any means, but I had some fun on the way to work this morning. There is an overpass over the freeway near where we live. I was stopped at the lights in the right hand lane just before the overpass and a red 2005 Vette pulled up on the left. The entrance to the freeway is on the right just past the bridge, so it’s common for guys with fast cars to pull up on the left and race you to the ramp. Yesterday, a Prelude cut-off an SUV and almost caused an accident, so I wasn’t going to try racing him to the ramp, but when he charged off the light I knew he was going to take the freeway, so I let him go. I selected S-4 and followed him around the ramp, closing to about 50yds, then matched his speed at about 70 km/hr. (45mph.). As we neared the end of the ramp, I saw the back end squat and I stepped on it too. I matched him all the way down the merge lane and as we merged at about 150 km/hr (95mph.), we both backed off and coasted into traffic slowing to normal highway speed. He coasted to the middle lane and slowed up behind a car. Traffic was very light and the left lane was wide open, so I wasn’t sure why he stayed in the middle lane. I pulled left and slipped past, then he pulled out and followed me around. Once I passed the car he was following, I moved over and he went past. :alrightbmw
Now, I wasn’t really trying to race him or I would have stayed much closer at the start. But I was really impressed with my car’s acceleration. I think he was impressed too, or a little baffled and had to let me go by so he could see what kind of car had kept up with him. That’s what I’d like the think anyway. ;)
