I was just wondering what do you guys think the best exhaust system is for this 4 banger BMW. I was considering the big names such as ansa, bosal and supersprint. I'm looking for a good overall (not to loud at normal crusing speeds but really loud and throaty through the high rpm's) sound with maybe a little bit of a performance gain. It sounds a bit like a ricer right now with the K and N CAI and the stock exhaust and i would like to try and change that.

Id just get a custom catback, mandrel bent, into a 2" inlet, 2.25" outlet. Its cheaper, has the sound, and the same performance any other exhaust system is gonna give you.

What part of ohio you in?

I have Scorpion on my M44 Z3. Pretty quiet with a nice growl under WOT, no droning. Should be more quiet on an enclosed car like the E36 318i. Breathes a lot easier and it seems to be a lot happier above 4k than before. I find myself in the upper rpm ranges than before. Check with Bavauto if available for your car.

Supersprints are also good but at a higher price. Ansa should be okay at a lower price point but I heard it is more prone to rust than the stainless steel Scorpions.

BTW, how can a CAI with stock exhaust be ricey sounding? If you put fart cans, then THAT is ricey sounding.

I have supersprint on my 318ti, not sure what stock sounds like because mine came with the car. Its not too loud at all and sounds pretty sporty for a 4-banger. Check out the vids in my sig for sound clips.

Would not recomend Stromung for your needs.
It does have nice performance gains and sounds great in the lower RPM's but it's quieter then stock in the upper RPM's (still sounds great though).

Only when cold is my Stromung quieter than stock at upper RPM's.

You're not going to get any real gains other than sound and weight savings with an exhaust system on a 318. My car feels identical before and after getting my Stromung.
