I recently bought back my M3 from my brother-in-law. Yes, I still don't know why I ever parted with it. anyways....

upon a few minutes of highway driving, the front passenger side caliper seems to stick upon intense heat (cause from braking on the hwy at a high rate of speed) I had a shop look at it and they quoted be a boat load of cash.

the question is, what do I do?

I just got my bentley manual in the mail today, and I am not sure if I should try to do it myself. My father has replaced numerous other cars pads, but I don't think he has alot of experience with calipers. I need to buy new rotors, pads, and most likely calipers. ( I wouldn't know how to rebuild a caliper). The shop quoted me 900 bucks for pads and calipers, but not rotors. I believe they are bosch. I don't really want to pay any more than that, but I don't even want to pay 750 bucks for pads, rotors, and calipers.

If i do it myself, what brand should I buy and am I some what capibable of doing it?

thanks for any help.

You can do rotors/pads. I haven't replace calipers but I did do my own rotors and pads (Brembo/Hawk) for $400. Calipers probably run $2-300 and you need to bleed the system.

Honestly, if you can replace the pads and bleed the system, you can easily do a caliper rebuild yourself. it is not hard at all. Do a search- there is at least one really good DIY that I know of, probably a few more that I dont know about.

From the looks of it you have a second car to drive so downtime is not going to be an issue.
Rebuild the calipers.
Pop the pistons out with compressed air.
The rebuild kit consists of a boot and an o-ring.
There is a diy you can read in the Bimmerdiydotcom archives.
It might take a day for you to do everything, but will be worth it in terms of the money you will save and what you will learn.
